About this role

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Build and maintain the data pipelines that move information from STORIS, the website, Marketplace, delivery, service, finance, and other operating systems into trusted company datasets.

- Test data for accuracy and freshness, and build automated checks that catch problems before the business sees them.

- Document business definitions and shared data contracts so that reports, applications, and AI tools calculate important numbers the same way.

- Monitor pipelines for failures, respond to incidents, and restore service when data does not arrive as expected.

- Make dependable data available to business intelligence reporting, product applications, website availability and delivery promises, and approved AI tools and agents.

- Maintain audit and lineage information so the company can trace where a number came from and how it was calculated.

- Write and review code using the company development standards, including version control, human code review, automated testing, documented deployment, and rollback.

- Partner with the Business Intelligence Developer and Analyst, who build reporting on top of these pipelines, and with Product and Integration Engineers whose applications depend on the same data.

- Work with STORIS and Core Applications Administrators and with system owners to understand source data and coordinate changes that affect downstream pipelines.

- Support data privacy, access, and security requirements, and partner with IT Security and the Security & Identity Administrator where sensitive data is involved.

- Provide backup coverage for other data engineering work so that no critical dataset depends on a single person.

- Participate in the architecture guidance, coaching, and code review provided by the Director of Engineering & AI, and progress toward independent ownership of assigned production pipelines.

- Support the data requirements of the Merchandising AI Roadmap, including the Inventory agents initiative, by supplying the source data, integrations, and readiness assessment those initiatives depend on.

- Contribute to data platform improvements, including cloud data services, testing frameworks, and monitoring tools.

- Stay current on data engineering practices and evaluate where they may create practical value for Mathis Home.

- Enforce all company policies and procedures and perform disciplinary actions when necessary.

- Ensure the safety and productivity of employees.

- Perform other duties as directed by management.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

- 3-7 years of experience in data engineering, database development, reporting development, or a closely related technical role.

- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Engineering, or related field preferred.

- Working proficiency in SQL and Python, including version control, code review, and the ability to write, test, and maintain production code.

- Experience building and supporting data pipelines, including scheduling, error handling, retries, monitoring, APIs, and external file feeds.

- Working knowledge of data modeling, the ability to document definitions others will rely on, and the ability to explain data limitations to non-technical audiences.

- Cloud data services fundamentals and an understanding of how data platforms are deployed and secured.

- Working knowledge of data privacy, information security, and acceptable use considerations for company data.

- Experience with retail, merchandising, inventory, or ERP data preferred.

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Ability to repetitively use arms, hands and fingers.

- Positive attitude when working with internal and external customers.

- Knowledge of employment, merchandise handling, and safety procedures.
