Position Purpose

The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in the daily operation of the Service Deli Department. This position helps ensure excellent customer service, high-quality fresh products, proper inventory levels, food safety and sanitation, effective merchandising, and efficient department operations. Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

- Provide fast, friendly, and professional customer service.
- Assist customers with product selections, special orders, and food preparation suggestions.
- Respond appropriately to customer questions, phone calls, and concerns.
- Resolve customer concerns when possible and escalate issues to store leadership as needed.

Department Operations

- Assist with the preparation, cooking, packaging, displaying, and serving of deli products.
- Prepare sandwiches, salads, pizzas, hot and cold foods, and party trays according to company standards.
- Maintain attractive, clean, fresh, and well-stocked deli displays.
- Follow established opening and closing procedures.
- Build promotional and seasonal displays as directed.
- Maintain proper product rotation and remove outdated or spoiled products.
- Support operation and maintenance of specialty areas such as salad bars, wing bars, and burger bars where applicable. - Maintain appropriate inventory levels while ensuring product quality and freshness.
- Stock, rotate, and organize products and cooler inventory.
- Assist with ordering and inventory control.
- Assist with sales and inventory reporting.

- Assist with scheduling associates to maintain appropriate department coverage and customer service levels.
- Help supervise associates and assign daily duties.
- Train associates on department procedures, food preparation, sanitation, customer service, sales, and recordkeeping requirements.

Skills & Qualifications

- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to lead, train, and work effectively with department associates.
- Working knowledge of deli operations, food preparation, sanitation, inventory control, merchandising, and product freshness.
- Basic mathematical skills, including knowledge of weights and measures.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to operate department equipment, including slicers, fryers, ovens, grills, food processors, wrappers, scales, printers, and pallet jacks.
- Ability to use computer systems and electronic ordering equipment as required.
