Job Title: VDC Designer Job Description
The VDC Designer plays a key role in delivering high-quality virtual design and construction (VDC) models and documentation for commercial construction projects. This position focuses on electrical VDC and design, using Autodesk tools to support project coordination, layout, and field installation. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Create, develop, and maintain VDC/BIM models for commercial construction projects using Autodesk Revit.
- Use Autodesk Navisworks to perform model coordination, clash detection, and constructability reviews across multiple trades.
- Support electrical VDC and electrical design activities, ensuring accurate representation of systems in project models and drawings.
- Apply a working knowledge of commercial construction workflows to align VDC models with field installation practices and project schedules.
- Interpret and review construction drawings and specifications to develop accurate layouts and models.
- Utilize AutoCAD to produce and update drawings, details, and other project documentation as needed.
- Export layout data from VDC models for use with field equipment, supporting accurate installation and field coordination.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, including designers, engineers, and field personnel, to resolve design issues and improve constructability.
- Manage multiple project priorities and deadlines while maintaining a strong commitment to producing high-quality, detailed work.
- Organize and maintain project files, models, and documentation to ensure efficient access and version control.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members to report progress, identify issues, and propose solutions.
- Contribute to a hardworking, relaxed, and collaborative team culture, participating in team-building and continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience performing VDC/BIM design work.
- Working knowledge and hands-on experience with Autodesk Revit for VDC/BIM design.
- Experience using Autodesk Navisworks for model coordination and clash detection.
- Working knowledge of commercial construction workflows and processes.
- Basic understanding of construction methods across multiple trades.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications accurately.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective teamwork.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and design support.
- Electrical VDC and/or electrical design experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Formal education or technical training in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, BIM, VDC, or a related field.
- Experience exporting layout data from VDC/BIM models for use with field equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-growing, team-oriented environment.
- Interest in participating in team-building activities and contributing to a collaborative culture.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position in a fast-growing organization located in the Tampa area. The work environment is hardworking yet relaxed, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. You will use Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, AutoCAD, and related tools to support commercial construction projects. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.62 - $43.27/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
