About this role

Job Title: Field Technician – Landfill Gas (Surface Emissions Monitoring) Job Description This role focuses on supporting operations and maintenance efforts for landfill gas projects by performing Surface Emissions Monitoring (SEM) at multiple landfill sites. The field technician travels frequently in a company vehicle to various locations, primarily within California and occasionally to surrounding states, to collect environmental data and help ensure compliance with emissions standards. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, walking extensively over uneven terrain, and contributing to environmentally focused engineering projects. Responsibilities

- Travel regularly to various landfill sites within California and, as needed, to surrounding states to perform Surface Emissions Monitoring (SEM).
- Conduct SEM by walking a serpentine path over landfill surfaces, including uneven ground and tall grass, while holding a monitoring wand approximately one foot above the surface to measure emissions levels.
- Perform SEM activities on a recurring schedule, which may range from monthly to quarterly, depending on site requirements.
- Accurately collect, record, and organize environmental field data related to landfill gas and surface emissions.
- Perform basic environmental field testing and sampling as required to support landfill gas and related environmental engineering projects.
- Use company-provided equipment and tools safely and correctly during all monitoring, sampling, and data collection activities.
- Operate a company truck in a safe and responsible manner, complying with all traffic laws and internal safety policies.
- Maintain detailed and accurate data entry and documentation for all site visits, measurements, and observations.
- Communicate field findings and any notable conditions to project teams in a clear and timely manner.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures, especially when working in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and varying weather conditions.
- Adhere to company policies and guidelines related to travel, per diem usage, vehicle operation, and field conduct.

Essential Skills

- Experience working in outdoor environments that require extensive walking, such as military, landfill, or field service roles.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to multiple landfill sites within California and occasionally to surrounding states.
- Capability to walk long distances over uneven terrain, including areas with tall grass, while carrying and operating monitoring equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in environmental data collection and data entry.
- Comfort working in field environments and performing environmental testing and sampling tasks.
- Clean driving record, with the ability to successfully pass a three-year Motor Vehicle Report review.
- Reliable, safety-conscious work style with a commitment to following established procedures and protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with landfill gas projects or landfill gas field work is a plus.
- Experience in environmental engineering, environmental field work, or environmental testing is beneficial.
- Prior experience performing Surface Emissions Monitoring (SEM) is a plus.
- Experience with data collection and environmental field sampling is advantageous.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations or compliance related to landfill operations is helpful.
- Previous travel-based work experience is preferred.
- Interest in working for an employee-owned organization with an ESOP program and a strong safety culture.

Work Environment This role is primarily field-based, with frequent travel in a company truck to landfill sites across California and occasionally to neighboring states. Work is performed outdoors on landfill surfaces that may be uneven, sloped, and covered with tall grass, requiring extensive walking along serpentine paths while carrying and operating SEM monitoring equipment. Field conditions vary with weather and site characteristics, and safety procedures guide all activities. The position includes overnight travel as needed, with per diem provided for overnight stays. The work environment emphasizes a strong culture of safety and people-first values, supported by an employee-owned structure and an ESOP program, offering opportunities to grow financially as the company grows.Exoerience
