Job Title: Construction Inspector Job Description The Construction Inspector performs daily inspections on a variety of construction projects to monitor quality and verify adherence to building codes, construction drawings, and project specifications. The role covers multiple inspection disciplines, including structural steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, and related materials and systems. The inspector conducts visual and physical inspections, performs field testing to confirm conformance with plans and specifications, prepares detailed inspection reports, documents observations and material testing, and communicates findings to engineers or project managers. This position actively collaborates with project teams to help resolve potential issues and strictly follows all safety standards on every project. Responsibilities

- Perform testing, observation, and inspection activities in accordance with training and established procedures to determine whether work complies with contract specifications.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, building codes, and project specifications to guide inspection and testing activities.
- Conduct visual and physical inspections of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, fireproofing, proprietary anchors, post-tensioning systems, structural wood, and related construction components.
- Perform field testing of construction materials and systems to verify conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Provide clear, accurate documentation of inspection findings, test results, and observations for each project.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports and document any nonconformance with specifications, codes, or quality standards.
- Perform basic analysis of collected data to verify accuracy before communicating results and submitting information to the Project Manager.
- Communicate inspection results, issues, and recommendations to the Project Manager and other designated project personnel in a timely manner.
- Interact with clients and site personnel, as needed, to provide input on appropriate resolutions for inspection findings and nonconformance issues.
- Assist the Project Manager in developing the scope of testing and inspection services for projects when requested.
- Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with project, department, and office leadership to ensure proper scheduling and resource allocation.
- Maintain inspection equipment in proper working condition and report any issues that may affect accuracy or safety.
- Assist more sr inspectors on large or complex projects, supporting advanced inspection and testing tasks.
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and project-specific safety requirements, including conducting pre-task planning before executing work.
- Report any safety issues, hazards, or concerns promptly to management.
- Maintain high quality standards on all projects and ensure consistent adherence to company and industry quality requirements.

Essential Skills

- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a special inspector in construction inspection.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications.
- Hands-on experience inspecting concrete, civil construction, structural steel, masonry, fireproofing, proprietary anchors, post-tensioning systems, and structural wood.
- Proficiency in using inspection equipment and performing field tests on construction materials.
- ACI Grade 1 Field Technician Certification.
- Nuclear density gauge certification.
- At least two ICC cementitious certifications, such as Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Shotcrete, or Post-Tension.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to prepare clear, detailed inspection reports and document nonconformance.
- Skill in basic data analysis to verify accuracy of test results and inspection findings.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with project managers, clients, and site personnel.
- Strong commitment to safety, including adherence to safety rules, pre-task planning, and reporting of safety concerns.
- Ability to maintain and operate inspection equipment reliably and accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience working on commercial construction projects.
- WABO certifications are highly desirable.
- CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification is considered a plus.
- Experience with aggregate testing is beneficial.
- Ability to collaborate with sr inspectors on large, complex projects.
- Interest in ongoing professional development and continuing certification processes.
- Comfort interacting with clients and project teams to discuss findings and potential solutions.

Work Environment This role is primarily onsite at active construction projects, with approximately 80% of the work focused on commercial construction rather than transportation projects. Typical project locations are within the Tacoma, Seattle, and Bellevue areas, minimizing travel outside these regions and with scheduling efforts made to keep inspectors working as close to their homes as possible. The work involves regular presence on construction sites, use of inspection and testing equipment such as nuclear density gauges and other field instruments, and adherence to strict safety protocols and pre-task planning. Projects are often high profile, offering exposure to complex and notable builds. The environment is field-based, requiring appropriate construction-site attire and personal protective equipment suitable for varying weather and site conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lynnwood, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
