Job Title: Civil Engineer
Job Description This Civil Engineer position offers the opportunity to work closely with a collaborative team of engineers and technicians on complex civil design projects, including support for the design of a major subway project. You will perform detailed designs and evaluations, prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and cost estimates, and contribute to technical specifications and reports. The role combines office-based design work with occasional site inspections and investigations, providing a well-rounded engineering experience in a hybrid work environment. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a team of engineers and technicians to deliver high-quality civil engineering design projects.
- Perform civil designs and evaluations, including stormwater management, site layouts, grading, drainage, utility design, and sediment and erosion control.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and cost estimates in accordance with applicable design codes and standards.
- Conduct site inspections and investigations as needed to support design development and project execution.
- Develop and prepare standard technical documents, including technical specifications, in line with relevant design codes.
- Research and review design options, assessing both technical performance and financial impact to recommend optimal solutions.
- Prepare engineering reports and other technical documents that clearly communicate design approaches, findings, and recommendations.
- Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to create and modify detailed civil design drawings and models.
- Apply Hydrocad and other tools to support stormwater management and related hydraulic calculations.
- Support the design of the 2nd Avenue subway project and other infrastructure initiatives, contributing to design coordination and documentation.
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to document analyses, prepare presentations, and organize project information.
- Collaborate in a hybrid work setting, participating in in-office training, meetings, and remote work activities as required.
- Travel occasionally to project sites or meetings as needed to support project objectives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- 2–3 years of related experience in civil design.
- Experience with stormwater management design, including use of Hydrocad.
- Proficiency in site layout, grading, drainage, utility design, and sediment and erosion control.
- Experience performing engineering calculations for civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong skills in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil design and drafting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and being on track to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Ability to prepare technical specifications, engineering reports, and other technical documents.
- Capacity to conduct site inspections and investigations and translate findings into design improvements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is highly valued.
- Experience supporting large-scale transportation or subway projects is beneficial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in design and documentation.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders.
- Ability to research and evaluate multiple design options considering both technical performance and cost implications.
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment that blends in-office collaboration with remote work.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and project documentation efficiently.
Work Environment The role offers a hybrid work schedule, with three days in the office and two days remote each week, providing a balance of collaboration and flexibility. New hires receive in-office training during the first week to become familiar with tools, processes, and project standards. You will work closely with a team of engineers and technicians on complex civil infrastructure projects, including support for the design of the 2nd Avenue subway project. The position involves occasional travel when needed for site inspections or project meetings. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $53.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
