Your role

Reporting to the Director People, the Specialist People Business Partner will provide site-based HR business partnering support across Newmont’s remote Tanami operations in the Northern Territory.

Working closely with operational and senior leadership teams you will provide practical, trusted advice across employee relations and the broader employee lifecycle.

As part of a small and collaborative People team you will also be required to operate confidently as the on-site People representative during roster rotations.

Key responsibilities

- Partner with operational and senior leaders to provide practical HR advice and support across employee relations, performance management, workforce matters and annual people processes
- Manage employee grievances, investigations and disciplinary matters in accordance with Newmont policies, Australian employment legislation and applicable workplace arrangements
- Partner with leaders to manage organisational change and transformation activities, provide coaching and guidance to build leadership capability, support employee transitions and embed sustainable change outcomes
- Work closely with Talent Acquisition and People Services to support workforce requirements, employee data integrity and effective delivery of People services on site
- Support the implementation of Newmont People initiatives including employee engagement, change management, diversity and inclusion and global HR standards
- Build strong relationships across the operation and promote Newmont’s Values and a positive, inclusive workplace culture.

Your skills and experience

- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline, with demonstrated HR generalist or business partnering experience in a site-based mining, resources or similarly complex operational environment
- Strong practical knowledge of Australian employment and employee relations legislation including the Fair Work framework, enterprise agreements, grievance management and disciplinary processes
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex people matters and confidently support operational and senior leadership teams within a large, remote mine operation
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP
- Ability to work a FIFO roster in a permanent site-based role with full and unrestricted Australian working rights.

Your work environment

Tanami is one of Australia’s most remote and significant underground gold mines, located deep in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory. As a fully fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) operation, Tanami flies around 1,800 employees and contractors to site via its own airstrip, with teams working on a rotational camp roster. The mine was originally an open-pit operation but has evolved into a world-class underground asset with extensive modern infrastructure. A major expansion (Tanami Expansion 2) is underway – including a 1.5-kilometre-deep hoisting shaft – to extend Tanami’s life beyond 2040 and increase production efficiency. The remote location fosters a close-knit team spirit, where safety and mutual respect are paramount. Tanami’s workforce is proud to work in partnership with the local Warlpiri people on whose land we operate, ensuring that our presence contributes positively to communities. This Tanami site-based position will work on a fly in fly out roster of 8 days on site, 6 days off from point of hire Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.
