Newmont's Merian operation is an open-pit gold mine located approximately 66 kilometers south of Moengo in the tropical rainforest of north-eastern Suriname. Construction began in 2014, with commercial production commencing in 2016. The operation includes five open pits and processes ore using a conventional mill and Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) circuit. Newmont owns a 75% interest in Merian, with the remaining 25% held by Suriname’s state-owned oil company. Operating on a rotational work schedule, Merian brings together a diverse workforce of Surinamese and international professionals in a modern camp environment. ##### Purpose
Prepare and maintain weekly mine scheduling and drill and blast work packages for mine operations which align with business plan for the site.
##### Essential Duties
- Develop weekly and 3months rolling drilling and blasting schedules
- Blast pattern design, tie-up design, blasted muck inventory management.
- Align wall control blast design and execution with long-term pit design walls, ensuring wall angles and catch-bench configurations are maintained
- Reconciliation of Planned production to actual production
- Drive continuous improvement in drilling and blasting through fragmentation analysis, vibration monitoring and KPI analyses.
- Perform drilling and blasting QAQC.
- Develop daily drill and blast report for mine operation team
- Develop daily plans for drill and blast operation team
- Implement and monitor a comprehensive short-term plan for the mine operations, detailing production targets, development milestones, and closure activities, as applicable

##### Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Minimum requirement B.S. degree in Engineering and 0 to 2years experience.
- Must have an aptitude for visualizing and communicating mine designs using specialize mine design software.
- Knowledge in MinePlan/MineSight, Shotplus/Blast IQ and Vulcan software or aptitude for learning
- Must have a good working knowledge of (or aptitude for learning) spreadsheet applications, to be able to accurately create and maintain data in spreadsheets.
- Must be motivated to accurately and effectively perform regular department duties with guidance and supervision of senior department members.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts and proficiency in English required, additional language capability (Spanish, Dutch) an asset.
Technical skills:
- Prior Experience in Short Term mine planning, project planning and drill and blast planning is preferred.
- Prior experience using Mine Plan/Mine Sight software or Vulcan software is preferred

Work Location: Merian, Sipaliwini
Work Schedule: 14 days work, 7 days off, 12 hours
