  Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. ##### Purpose

As Planner, Shutdown you will play a key role in the success of critical Oxygen Plant shutdowns by coordinating detailed planning activities, optimising schedules and resources, and ensuring maintenance work is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.

##### Essential Duties

- Develop comprehensive shutdown plans, schedules, and readiness activities to ensure shutdowns are executed safely, efficiently, and on time.
- Utilise Newmont's SMSI shutdown readiness systems and processes to drive effective planning and execution outcomes.
- Partner closely with Maintenance, Operations, and key stakeholders to align shutdown scope, priorities, and resource requirements.
- Prepare and coordinate detailed shutdown work packs, documentation, and execution plans to support seamless delivery.
- Monitor shutdown progress, identify schedule risks, and implement adjustments to maintain critical milestones.
- Ensure all materials, tooling, equipment, and contractor resources are available, staged, and ready ahead of shutdown commencement.
- Manage shutdown parts, kits, and staging activities, ensuring all readiness requirements are met before execution.
- Lead shutdown risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies, and proactively monitor emerging risks throughout the shutdown lifecycle.
- Facilitate pre-shutdown planning meetings, readiness reviews, and shutdown charter approvals to ensure all stakeholders are aligned and prepared.
- Track, analyse, and report on shutdown performance metrics, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Champion compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards while promoting a strong safety culture across all shutdown activities.

##### Training & Experience

- Proven experience in shutdown planning, maintenance coordination, or a similar heavy industry environment.
- Strong understanding of statutory, safety, and environmental requirements, with a demonstrated commitment to compliance and risk management.
- Broad knowledge of maintenance trades and how multiple disciplines interact during complex shutdown activities.
- Advanced skills in shutdown planning, scheduling, and coordination, ensuring work is scoped, resourced, and executed safely and effectively.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, identifying potential execution challenges, and implementing practical mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, including resource levelling, scheduling, and cost control methodologies.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Significant practical experience as a maintenance tradesperson or within a maintenance-focused role.
- Demonstrated frontline leadership experience, with the ability to influence, coordinate, and engage diverse teams and contractors.
- Sound understanding of work scoping, planning processes, and maintenance execution best practices.
- A trade qualification or equivalent industry experience is highly regarded.

This is a FIFO role on a 21/21 roster.
