The Project Engineer plays a key role in developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes and cost estimates for assigned products. This role combines strong engineering expertise, analytical capability, and leadership to ensure that manufacturing methods meet customer requirements, cost targets, and quality standards. The Project Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, leads technical discussions, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve quality, and support new product introduction and design changes.
Responsibilities
- Assure and verify that manufacturing methods comply with customer drawings, specifications, and purchase order requirements.
- Create and manage all required Bills of Material (BOM) in support of assigned products.
- Develop and maintain supply chain flow-down requirements to ensure compliance throughout the supply base.
- Collaborate with other management personnel to develop and maintain new products and support design change milestones.
- Submit tooling and program requests to appropriate manufacturing engineers, including clear concepts and requirements.
- Create manufacturing router processes for assigned projects and ensure they align with product and process requirements.
- Establish all time standards on routers and verify that they align with quoted estimates.
- Review and approve fixture designs and CNC programs to ensure manufacturability, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Prepare for and lead customer product reviews, including Production Readiness Reviews when applicable.
- Review and disposition product repairs, reworks, and Material Review Board (MRB) items for assigned programs.
- Investigate and oversee root cause analysis and corrective actions for issues on assigned programs.
- Ensure completeness of milestone plans and verify that tasks for assigned products are completed on schedule.
- Lead efforts related to customer escapes, coordinating with engineering team members to provide accurate data for quality review.
- Review manufacturing cost data and ensure that appropriate plans are in place to meet cost goals for assigned products.
- Ensure that Phase 3 and Phase 4 tasks for assigned products are completed and that all necessary approvals are obtained.
- Support the manufacturing estimator on all quotes for existing assigned programs.
- Recommend safety and ergonomic improvements in material handling devices, manufacturing tools, and workstations to support best practices for shop floor personnel.
- Participate in discussions with customers and suppliers as required to address technical, quality, and process-related topics.
- Make effective complex decisions with limited time and information, using clear decision-making criteria based on priorities.
- Lead discussions and debates with peers, matrix business partners, operational partners, and leaders to drive alignment and decisions.
- Mentor employees by sharing technical knowledge, best practices, and process expertise.
- Research, understand, and implement innovative technologies that reduce cost and improve product quality.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support engineering and manufacturing objectives.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in manufacturing and/or cost estimating.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
- Strong analytical capabilities with a basic understanding of statistical analysis techniques.
- Ability to make complex decisions quickly with limited information and clearly defined priorities.
- Proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal skills and independent problem-resolution capability.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines with internal and external resources.
- Comfort and effectiveness in leading discussions and debates with peers, partners, and leaders.
- Working knowledge of an ERP system.
- Engineering experience with NX and CAD software.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, symbols, geometric tolerances, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of CAD/CAM systems, shop mathematics, sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, inspection methods, and coatings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Capability to mentor employees and support their development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting new product introduction and design change implementation.
- Experience creating and managing Bills of Material and manufacturing routers.
- Familiarity with production readiness reviews and customer product review processes.
- Experience reviewing and approving fixture designs and CNC programs.
- Background in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for manufacturing issues.
- Exposure to manufacturing cost analysis and cost-reduction planning.
- Experience collaborating with customers and suppliers on technical and process-related topics.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend safety and ergonomic improvements in a manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing-focused environment that integrates engineering, production, and quality functions. The Project Engineer works extensively with ERP systems, CAD/CAM tools, NX, and Microsoft Office to develop and manage manufacturing processes, routers, and Bills of Material. The position involves regular interaction with shop floor personnel, participation in product and process reviews, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, customers, and suppliers. The work includes both office-based engineering tasks and on-site manufacturing support, requiring attention to detail, adherence to safety and ergonomic best practices, and comfort working around fabrication, machining, welding, and inspection operations.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Palm Bay, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Must be able to lift, move, transport and load items across the building up to 50 pounds at times.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position and constantly re-position self to perform required tasks.
May be required to work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
May be exposed to physical hazards from moving equipment, heavy equipment, and machine parts.
May work in close proximity to others.
