Automation Technician

Overview

We are seeking an Automation Technician to join a highly automated manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving electrical, mechanical, and automation systems throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will have experience working with PLCs, drives, servos, HMIs, and CNC equipment , along with a strong troubleshooting mindset and a commitment to safety. You'll work alongside manufacturing, quality, engineering, and IT teams to support critical equipment, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and help maximize production efficiency.

What You'll Do

- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and automation systems.
- Diagnose issues involving PLCs, drives, servo systems, HMIs, and CNC equipment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
- Support continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
- Read and work safely around electrical systems and energized equipment.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and system modifications.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve production issues.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements while working with manufacturing equipment and hazardous materials.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 2 years of automation, maintenance, industrial electrical, or mechanical troubleshooting experience.
- Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Windows.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Customer-focused attitude with strong communication skills.
- Basic project management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, or CNC equipment.
- Industrial manufacturing or heavy manufacturing experience.
- Electrical apprenticeship or progress toward a Journeyman Electrician license.
- Experience working with hazardous materials and following lockout/tagout procedures.
- Additional technical certifications or ongoing technical training.

Work Environment

This position is based in a heavy manufacturing environment and involves hands-on work with industrial equipment and automation systems. Candidates should be comfortable:

- Working around moving machinery, electrical systems, and manufacturing equipment.
- Standing, kneeling, bending, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Lifting and moving heavy components when required.
- Working with proper PPE and following strict safety protocols.
- Supporting equipment both indoors and outdoors as needed.

Multiple openings are available on both first and second shift .

This is a Contract position based out of Dubuque, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.90 - $36.13/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
