JOB SUMMARY

Serve as an instructor for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and/or Paramedic certification programs. Responsible for assisting the classroom instructors in coordinating and facilitating the labs necessary to educate EMS students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Maintain required TDHS certifications

- Develop proficiency with TDHS and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians requirements for the EMT and Paramedic training programs

- Maintain academic and programmatic records as required by Midland College and accreditation/approval agencies and submit documentation in a timely manner

- Participate in the instruction of EMT and/or Paramedic lab courses

- Serve as preceptor at remote site clinical facilities and field internship sites

- Prepare lab for classes, help dismantle and clean up after lab activities

- Demonstrate the proper use of lab equipment and hazardous or biohazardous materials

- Provide leadership and positive role modeling for students

- Educate and assist students with learning of the various skills necessary for EMS education

- Evaluate student performance

- Conduct formative and summative assessment of student learning

- Create and maintain a positive learning environment, displaying and requiring professionalism in all activities

- Work collaboratively with EMS agency, clinical affiliates on meeting program goals and learning outcomes

- Adapt and apply laboratory methods, practices, and techniques

- Follow health and safety procedures and regulations

- Work with minimal direct supervision

- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

- Minimum one year experience in the provision of emergency medical services

- Current certification or able to obtain: Texas Department of State Health Services (TDHS) EMT or Paramedic depending on teaching assignment(s)

- Knowledge of modern pre-hospital emergency medical services principles, practices, and procedures, including the operation and maintenance of various types of emergency medical services apparatus and equipment utilized in training

- Proficient in the English language

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

- Associate's degree from an accredited institution or higher

- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification as EMT or Paramedic depending on teaching assignment(s)

- Successful college and/or dual credit teaching experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Typical office

- Business Hours

- M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm

- Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll)

- Occasional travel (less than 10%)

Physical Demands

- Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds

- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time

- Use of manual dexterity

- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

- Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town may be required

Salary Range: $21.00 - $26.25 per hour
