About this role

Position summary

The Shop Hand and Truck Driver supports fabrication and manufacturing operations by preparing materials, assisting skilled trades, moving and organizing work, maintaining a clean and safe shop, and transporting materials, parts, and equipment as assigned. The position helps keep jobs flowing while following work instructions, traffic laws, safety rules, and quality requirements.

Essential duties and responsibilities

- Assist fitters, welders, machinists, inspectors, and other production personnel as directed.

- Stage raw materials, components, tools, fixtures, and supplies for scheduled work.

- Move materials and completed parts using carts, hoists, forklifts, or other equipment only when trained and authorized.

- Clean, deburr, grind, sand, and prepare metal parts as instructed without damaging finished surfaces or critical dimensions.

- Clean parts and work areas and remove chips, scrap, trash, oil, and other debris using approved methods.

- Assist with receiving, counting, labeling, storing, and issuing materials and shop supplies.

- Protect parts from damage, contamination, corrosion, or loss during handling and storage.

- Complete required production, material, and housekeeping records accurately.

- Operate company trucks safely to pick up and deliver materials, parts, tools, and equipment as assigned.

- Perform and document required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.

- Verify loads, delivery locations, and paperwork before departure and obtain required signatures or delivery confirmation.

- Properly load, distribute, secure, protect, and unload cargo using approved equipment and safe material-handling practices.

- Follow traffic laws, posted restrictions, company vehicle policies, and customer or vendor site safety requirements.

- Keep assigned vehicles clean and organized and maintain fuel, mileage, inspection, and delivery records as required.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Shop Supervisor.

Qualifications and requirements

- Manufacturing, fabrication, warehouse, construction, or mechanical experience is preferred but not required.

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and learn shop processes through hands-on training.

- Basic ability to use common hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools safely.

- Ability to identify materials, part numbers, quantities, and job information accurately.

- Dependable attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, and willingness to assist where needed.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.

- Must be at least 25 years of age to meet company vehicle and insurance eligibility requirements.

- Must possess a current, valid driver license appropriate for the vehicle being operated.

- Must have a good driving record and remain eligible to operate company vehicles under company insurance requirements.

- Ability to safely load, secure, transport, and unload materials and equipment.

- Ability to travel locally and complete pickups and deliveries within the assigned schedule.

- Forklift, overhead crane, rigging, or material handling experience is preferred; operation requires company authorization.

Quality and safety responsibilities

- Follow applicable work instructions, inspection requirements, QMS policies, and company procedures.

- Use required personal protective equipment and follow safe lifting, grinding, material handling, and housekeeping practices.

- Wear seat belts, drive defensively, avoid distracted driving, and never operate a company vehicle while impaired or medically unfit to drive.

- Do not operate a vehicle that appears unsafe; remove it from service when required and immediately notify supervision.

- Abide by all company policies and support a safe, quality focused workplace.

Shift and employment information

Full time positions may be assigned to day or night shift. Day shift is 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The standard schedule consists of 10 hour shifts. Compensation is per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

Physical requirements

The employee is frequently required to stand and walk; use hands to handle tools, parts, and controls; reach with hands and arms; and bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or twist as the work requires. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and must have the manual dexterity and visual ability needed to safely operate equipment and inspect work. Work environment

Work is performed in a fabrication and manufacturing environment and while driving or making pickups and deliveries. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, powered tools, welding and grinding operations, airborne particles, industrial vehicles, traffic, outdoor weather, loading areas, and varying noise levels. Required personal protective equipment must be worn, including hearing protection in designated areas.
