About this role

Job Title: Electrical / Low Voltage Systems Designer Job Description The Electrical / Low Voltage Systems Designer supports the design and coordination of structured cabling, telecommunications, life safety, and security systems for a wide range of public-sector and institutional projects throughout Washington State. You will design telecommunications infrastructure and low-voltage building systemsincluding fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, nurse call, intercom, and related technologieswhile collaborating closely with engineering and drafting teams from initial site investigations through construction administration. Responsibilities

- Design structured cabling systems, including telecommunications rooms, backbone and horizontal pathways, and grounding and bonding systems.
- Design Division 27 and Division 28 low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, nurse call, intercom, duress alarm, and visitor screening systems.
- Conduct field investigations and existing-condition surveys to document and verify site conditions.
- Develop and coordinate low-voltage system layouts that integrate with architectural and engineering disciplines.
- Edit and prepare Division 27 and Division 28 technical specifications for construction documents.
- Create markups utilizing Bluebeam to guide drafting teams and ensure accurate construction documentation.
- Coordinate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams in an A&E consulting environment to produce fully coordinated design packages.
- Assist with requests for information (RFIs), submittal reviews, and other construction administration activities.
- Participate in client meetings and technical design reviews, presenting design concepts and addressing technical questions.
- Support projects across healthcare, behavioral health, correctional, education, and broader public-sector facilities.
- Apply knowledge of relevant codes and standards to ensure compliant and reliable telecommunications and low-voltage systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, documentation standards, and project delivery practices.

Essential Skills

- Current BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification, serving as the core credential for independent telecommunications and ICT infrastructure design.
- Minimum 4 years of low-voltage systems design experience.
- Proven experience designing structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure, including backbone and horizontal pathways.
- Demonstrated experience developing construction documents and technical specifications for low-voltage and telecommunications systems.
- Strong understanding of Division 27 and Division 28 systems design, including fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, nurse call, intercom, and related building systems.
- Knowledge of TIA-568, TIA-569, and TIA-607 standards for cabling, pathways, and grounding and bonding.
- Knowledge of NFPA 72 and NEC Chapters 7 and 8 for life safety and special systems.
- Knowledge of BICSI TDMM and its application to ICT design and structured cabling systems.
- Experience with Revit coordination workflows to produce coordinated design packages with architects and engineers.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam for markups, coordination, and construction documentation review.
- Ability to conduct site surveys and field investigations and translate findings into accurate design documents.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel throughout Washington State as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience working on Washington public works projects.
- Experience with DES-managed projects or similar public-sector project delivery frameworks.
- Background in behavioral health or correctional facility projects, including specialized security and safety systems.
- NICET Fire Alarm Certification, supporting advanced fire alarm design and documentation.
- CTS-D Certification, demonstrating expertise in audiovisual and technology systems design.
- BICSI DCDC certification, indicating data center design capability.
- BICSI OSP certification, indicating proficiency in outside plant design.
- Experience with existing facility renovation projects, including integration of new systems with legacy infrastructure.
- Familiarity with security engineering principles for access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems.
- Experience in healthcare, education, and other public-sector environments requiring complex low-voltage and life safety systems.
- Ability to work effectively in an A&E consulting environment with architects, engineers, and drafting teams.
- Strong communication skills for participating in client meetings and technical design reviews.

Work Environment This role offers remote work flexibility, with the expectation that the designer resides in the Pacific Northwest, ideally in Oregon or Washington, to support travel and on-site project needs throughout Washington State. You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that leverages tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam to produce coordinated construction documentation for public-sector and institutional facilities. Projects span healthcare, behavioral health, correctional, education, and other public works environments, providing exposure to complex life safety, security, and telecommunications systems. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $125000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
