Job Title: Quality Engineer Job Description The Quality Engineer will serve as the sole engineer within the quality department, partnering closely with two Quality Inspectors to ensure product conformity and continuous improvement across both turf care seating assembly and heavy industrial product lines. This role focuses on interpreting blueprints, validating parts against specifications, leading root cause investigations, and owning corrective actions from issue identification through resolution. The position requires regular collaboration with Manufacturing Engineers to create and update work instructions, as well as direct communication with customers and overseas suppliers to address and resolve quality concerns. Responsibilities
- Serve as the sole Quality Engineer in the quality department and collaborate closely with two Quality Inspectors to maintain and improve product quality.
- Review and interpret blueprints to determine whether parts meet all specified requirements and tolerances.
- Create, update, and refine work instructions in partnership with Manufacturing Engineers, recommending changes when processes or documentation do not appear correct.
- Develop, review, and maintain control plans and PFMEAs to support robust quality processes across both turf care seating and heavy industrial product lines.
- Lead root cause investigations for quality issues using structured problem-solving tools such as Fishbone Diagrams and 5 Whys.
- Own quality issues and corrective actions from identification through closure, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.
- Communicate directly with customers to discuss quality concerns, walk through findings, and present corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Engage with overseas suppliers and domestic customers to address product quality issues, clarify requirements, and drive resolution of nonconformances.
- Spend at least 25% of working time on the production floor to observe processes, inspect parts, and support operators and inspectors with quality-related questions.
- Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, comparators, and gauges to verify part dimensions and confirm compliance with print specifications.
- Manage multiple quality projects and initiatives simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Support quality across both turf care seating assembly and heavy industrial products, adapting to different mechanical and assembly-focused processes.
- Update PFMEAs and control plans as needed based on new findings, process changes, or corrective actions.
- Assist in writing and improving work instructions to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with quality standards.
- Stay beyond normal working hours on occasion when significant quality issues arise, helping to investigate and resolve problems as needed.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree or 35 years of experience in a relevant field.
- At least 1 year of experience in a quality position within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, comparators, gauges, and similar equipment.
- Experience with root cause analysis methodologies, including use of Fishbone Diagrams and 5 Whys.
- Understanding of, or direct involvement in, PFMEAs and control plans within a manufacturing setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience dealing directly with suppliers or customers on quality-related topics.
- Experience updating PFMEAs and control plans based on new information or process changes.
- Experience writing and refining work instructions in collaboration with manufacturing or operations teams.
- Exposure to both assembly-focused and mechanically-focused manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication skills for leading discussions on quality issues with domestic and overseas stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to maintaining accurate quality records and documentation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $36.06/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
