Position Overview
CLFC Healthcare and Communications is competing for the grand jury and deposition court reporting contract for the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Louisiana, and is selecting the two court reporters it will name as key personnel. The reporters we name are presented to the Government with their resumes, and work begins on contract award. The first contract year is scheduled to begin December 15, 2026.
The work has a known rhythm. The grand jury normally sits twice a week, and the office has historically averaged about 60 grand jury session days and about 50 depositions a year. Assignments are ordered as the office needs them, so volume varies from year to year, and coverage is shared between the two reporters named on the contract.
You are paid for your time in the room and for every transcript page you produce, with higher page pay on expedited orders. The engagement is non-exclusive, so you keep your own clients alongside it.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture a complete and accurate verbatim record of federal grand jury testimony and depositions.
- Record on stenotype equipment with realtime and computer-aided transcription.
- Administer the oath to witnesses where the proceeding requires it.
- Produce certified transcripts in the contract format, on ten-day, five-day, three-day and same-day delivery schedules as ordered.
- Attach the reporter's certificate to each original transcript in the form the contract prescribes.
- Host remote depositions when ordered: send the links to all parties, swear the witness and take custody of the exhibits.
- Protect grand jury secrecy and the confidentiality of all testimony, notes and exhibits.
- Maintain a documented chain of custody for notes, media and exhibits, and deliver transcripts through secure channels.
- Coordinate assignment claims and confirmations through the CLFC BRIDGE App.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified in the operation of stenotype equipment, realtime and computer-aided transcription.
- Louisiana Certified Court Reporter (CCR) in good standing with the Louisiana Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters.
- Authority to administer oaths in Louisiana.
- United States citizen or national, or lawful permanent resident seeking citizenship, with United States residency for at least three of the last five years, as the Department of Justice requires.
- Ability to clear the Department of Justice background investigation required for access to grand jury material.
- Availability for Thursday and Friday grand jury sessions in New Orleans, and for depositions within 50 miles of the city.
- A current resume showing location, education, experience, training and any security clearance, which CLFC submits to the Government with its quote.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Professional Reporter (RPR), Registered Merit Reporter (RMR) or Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR).
- Federal grand jury experience, or experience supporting a United States Attorney's Office or United States District Court.
- Experience producing same-day and other expedited transcripts.
- Experience hosting remote depositions on video conferencing platforms.
- Experience working alongside a legal videographer.
Compensation and Engagement Details
- $60.00 per hour of attendance, with a two-hour minimum for each deposition.
- Page pay for every transcript page you produce: about $3.08 a page on ten-day delivery, $3.57 on five-day, $4.09 on three-day and $6.09 on same-day.
- As an illustration drawn from the office's historical averages, a grand jury day of four hours and 140 ten-day pages pays $240.00 in attendance and about $431 in page pay, about $671 for the day.
- Independent contractor engagement (1099), paid within 30 days of your invoice.
- Travel to deposition locations is reimbursed under the contract's travel terms.
- The contract is planned as a base year beginning December 15, 2026, with four one-year option periods available to the Government.
- Assignment claims and confirmations are managed through CLFC's BRIDGE App, so scheduling stays off your desk.
- A named Program Manager from CLFC's Program Management Office is your single point of contact for scheduling, coordination and payment.
