Phlebotomist (Per Diem/Flexible Coverage) Hospital & Clinic Settings

Job Description

We are seeking a flexible and reliable Phlebotomist to provide coverage across both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. This role is primarily focused on phlebotomy and specimen collection , with occasional support in specimen processing as needed. This is a per diem/on-call position with no guaranteed hours. Candidates who are open to flexible schedules, weekend coverage, and occasional last-minute shift opportunities will have the greatest access to available hours.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures.
- Collect, label, and process patient specimens accurately.
- Support specimen processing workflows as needed.
- Provide coverage in hospital departments, including the Emergency Department (ED).
- Float between departments and multiple clinic locations based on staffing needs.
- Maintain exceptional patient care and safety standards.
- Utilize EMR systems including EPIC and Certa .

Coverage Area

This position is primarily based out of Zion but requires travel and flexibility to support multiple clinical locations, including:

- South Bay (Otay)
- East County (El Cajon)
- Central San Diego (Point Loma through Carmel Valley)

Schedule

- Per diem/on-call status
- No guaranteed hours
- Weekend availability strongly preferred
- Potential shift start times include: 4:00 AM
- 7:00 AM
- 3:00 PM 11:00 PM

- Ability to accept occasional last-minute coverage assignments preferred

Required Qualifications

- Valid California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) License
- Experience performing venipunctures and specimen collection
- Strong attention to detail and patient-focused approach
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing staffing needs
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between assigned locations

Preferred Qualifications

- At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience (hospital or clinic setting preferred)
- New graduates/externs with strong clinical training will also be considered
- Pediatric phlebotomy experience
- Experience with EPIC and/or Certa EMR systems
- Bilingual skills are a plus

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
