Job Title: Payroll Specialist Job Description
The Payroll Specialist manages and processes end-to-end payroll for a large employee population across multiple provinces. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, maintains compliance with provincial payroll legislation and internal policies, and supports a high-volume, deadline-driven payroll environment. The successful candidate brings hands-on experience with multi-provincial payroll and demonstrates strong attention to detail, accuracy, and collaboration with HR and Finance teams.
Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end payroll for more than 300 employees on a regular cycle.
- Administer multi-provincial payroll, including British Columbia and Alberta, in compliance with applicable legislation.
- Ensure payroll accuracy for all earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
- Maintain, update, and audit employee payroll records to ensure data integrity.
- Support payroll reconciliations and investigate, identify, and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with provincial payroll legislation and internal company policies.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner.
- Collaborate closely with HR and Finance teams to support payroll-related processes and reporting.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including preparation and support for T4s and related documentation, as needed.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of dedicated payroll experience in a professional environment.
- Proven experience processing payroll for 300 or more employees in a high-volume setting.
- Hands-on experience with Alberta payroll administration; experience with British Columbia payroll is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements across applicable provinces.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy when working in a deadline-driven environment.
- Solid understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills to respond effectively to employee payroll inquiries.
- Ability to work collaboratively with HR and Finance teams to support integrated payroll processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Vista payroll or HRIS software.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or active progress toward obtaining the certification.
- Experience supporting year-end payroll activities, including T4 preparation and reconciliation.
- Comfort working in a permanent, on-site role within a structured payroll team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with standard office productivity tools for data entry, reporting, and documentation.

This is an on-site, permanent position within a structured payroll team environment. The Payroll Specialist works closely with HR and Finance colleagues in a professional office setting, using payroll systems such as Vista along with standard office software. The role involves managing high-volume, multi-provincial payroll in a deadline-driven atmosphere, requiring consistent attention to detail, accuracy, and collaboration. The work environment supports clear communication, teamwork, and a focus on compliance and service to employees.

This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.03 - $28.84/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
