General Description and Classification Standards:
- The assignment will conduct inspections for the Healthy Homes Atlanta grants. The Lead Inspector is responsible for conducting lead risk assessments to ensure residential units are free from lead-based paint hazards and that any lead abatement activities have been properly completed in compliance with federal standards. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health by ensuring adherence to HUD and environmental safety regulations. The Lead Inspector operates with a high level of technical expertise and regulatory knowledge and is expected to maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
Supervision Received:
- Works under general supervision, receiving directions from program management or environmental leadership. Exercises independent judgement in conducting inspections and assessments in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience – High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by experience in environmental inspection, construction, housing, or a related field. Relevant experience in lead-based paint inspection or risk assessment preferred.
Licensures and Certifications – Current Lead Risk Assessor certification from the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) or equivalent, meeting HUD requirements
Preferred Requirements – Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health, construction management, or a related field; experience with HUD funded programs; prior experience performing lead inspections and clearance testing.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed both in office and field settings. Field work includes inspections of residential properties, which may involve exposure to dust, debris, and potentially hazardous materials including lead-based paint. The position may require travel to various sites, standing, walking, bending, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Work may occasionally occur in confined spaces or occupied residential units.
Lifting Requirements:
Sedentary work : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Light work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Medium work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Heavy work : Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Very heavy work : Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
