About this role

Job Title: Safety Professional Job Description The Safety Professional coordinates and administers site safety programs to ensure full compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety and occupational health standards and procedures. This role provides safety resource support to assigned operating units, including training, permitting, and hazard control guidance. The Safety Professional delivers strong safety and health leadership to ensure all employees return home healthy and safe after each shift. The position requires regular travel to different project locations, and a company vehicle or vehicle allowance is provided. Responsibilities

- Investigate any incident or near miss, document findings, and report results in a timely and thorough manner.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations and support emergency response activities as needed.
- Attend required safety meetings and actively contribute to improving site safety practices.
- Conduct regular safety meetings with tradespersons to instruct them on project safety practices, procedures, and requirements.
- Perform written daily safety inspections of work activities and make inspection reports available for review to ensure compliance with safe work practices and the site-specific safety plan.
- Take direction related to timely abatement and control of hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Conduct site inspections, document findings, and track all corrective actions through to closure.
- Perform job safety analyses to identify hazards and recommend appropriate controls.
- Maintain jobsite-specific safety documentation and ensure records are accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Conduct safety training sessions for employees and contractors, including toolbox talks and formal training programs.
- Coach and teach safety practices across the region, reinforcing a strong safety culture and best practices.
- Provide safety resource support for assigned operating units, including assistance with permitting and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrate knowledge of risk, liability, and safety management when advising project teams and leadership.
- Use computer systems and software to prepare reports, track actions, maintain records, and support safety program administration.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written form with workers, supervisors, and leadership.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-up to ensure all safety issues are addressed.
- Complete any additional safety-related assignments deemed appropriate by the Health & Safety Manager or project leadership.

Essential Skills

- 35 years of construction experience, including at least 2 years of on-site construction safety responsibilities.
- Specialized safety training relevant to construction and site safety scope of work.
- OSHA 500-hour Construction Outreach Training, or greater, or equivalent advanced OSHA construction safety training.
- Working knowledge of construction safety regulations, standards, and hazard control methods.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct safety training for diverse construction workforces.
- Proven experience leading or participating in incident investigations and emergency response activities.
- Ability to conduct thorough site inspections and track corrective actions to closure.
- Experience performing job safety analyses and implementing appropriate controls.
- Strong computer knowledge and skills for documentation, reporting, and tracking safety metrics.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging field staff and leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk, liability, and safety management principles.
- Ability to travel to various project sites as required by workload and project needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience working in construction environments with multiple trades and complex operations.
- Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or similar credentials are highly beneficial.
- Experience with OSHA 510 or other OSHA construction safety courses.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and influence workers and supervisors to improve safety performance.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with tight project deadlines and evolving priorities.

Work Environment This is a fully on-site role at active construction sites, supporting long-term projects with significant ramp-up activity. The site currently has multiple safety professionals supporting a workforce of over 200 workers, with a target ratio of one Safety Professional for approximately every 29 workers. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with strong emphasis on completing projects on schedule. There are frequent opportunities for overtime due to project timelines and workload demands. The position requires regular presence in the field, close interaction with tradespersons and site leadership, and travel to different locations as needed. The work involves typical construction site conditions, including exposure to outdoor weather, noise, and active heavy equipment, and requires adherence to appropriate personal protective equipment and site safety protocols.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Port Washington, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
