The Controllership Lead owns the accurate, timely and controlled delivery of close, accounting and reporting activities for an assigned ST&S business or portfolio. - Own controllership delivery for the assigned scope, including due diligence, management-to-accounting alignment, derivative accounting, fair value valuation, intercompany matters, statutory reporting support and resolution of material issues.
- Ensure financial controls are appropriately designed and operated across close, reporting, derivative accounting and valuation processes; evidence is maintained, control gaps are assessed and remediated, and material risks or issues are advanced promptly.
- Lead the accounting implementation of new business activity and business change, working with technical accounting and other specialists to translate requirements into sustainable processes, data, controls and ways of working.
- Coordinate priorities across teams and locations, review complex outputs, provide technical guidance and support clear accountability for quality, service and delivery.
- Drive global consistency and continuous improvement by simplifying processes, reducing manual activity, strengthening data quality and sponsoring practical automation and technology improvements.
What You will need to be successful:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of post-degree experience in controllership, accounting, reporting, or financial control roles, including responsibility for sophisticated close processes and issue resolution within large or complex organisations.
Technical Accounting & Financial Control Expertise
- Deep practical knowledge of financial accounting, period-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls within complex trading or supply environments.
- Strong expertise in accounting for physical and financial commodity activities, including derivative accounting, fair value valuation, market data impacts, lifecycle events, and management-to-accounting alignment.
- Ability to interpret and apply accounting policies and technical guidance across processes, systems, business divisions, and geographies, while recognising when specialist technical accounting support is required.
Commodity Trading & Business Understanding
- Strong understanding of ST&S or comparable commodity trading and supply businesses, including the impact of trading activity, contracts, systems, market data, and operational events on financial performance.
- Comprehensive understanding of the roles and accountabilities of Front Office, Commodity Risk, Commercial Finance, Technical Accounting, Core Finance, service providers, external auditors, and other key collaborators, with the ability to work effectively across these functions.
Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and resolve complex accounting, derivative valuation, data, control, and process issues under tight reporting deadlines and often with incomplete information.
- Skilled in identifying root causes, assessing materiality and risk, evaluating options, engaging specialist support when appropriate, and balancing immediate delivery requirements with sustainable long-term solutions.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior Finance and Risk collaborators, technical specialists, auditors, and delivery teams.
- Effective communicator who can translate complex accounting, reporting, and control matters into clear business language, provide constructive challenge, influence decisions, and drive alignment across competing priorities.
