Job Title: Buyer Job Description
We are seeking a Buyer to manage the procurement of materials used in the production of industrial machinery and related products. The individual will be responsible for processing and maintaining purchase orders, responding to MRP requirements, coordinating material deliveries, managing supplier communication, and helping to prevent production delays. The role involves working closely with suppliers and internal departments to support pricing, quality, inventory, and on-time delivery objectives.
Responsibilities
- Process purchase orders and ensure accuracy regarding quantity, pricing, specifications, and delivery requirements.
- Review and respond to MRP messages to maintain a consistent flow of materials and support cost-reduction, quality, and supplier-delivery initiatives.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and business terms with new and existing suppliers.
- Update purchase orders with supplier-confirmed delivery dates and quantities.
- Coordinate incoming material deliveries to support on-time production and delivery.
- Monitor backordered materials and assign appropriate ship dates.
- Work with suppliers to expedite orders and resolve late-delivery issues.
- Contact vendors regularly to confirm that materials will arrive as needed.
- Notify the appropriate internal departments when material delays occur.
- Assist with analyzing supply-chain issues, work in progress, and potential production setbacks.
- Recommend solutions to help ensure customer and production delivery requirements are met.
- Participate in reviewing and adjusting inventory and planning parameters, including safety stock and lead times.
- Work extensively within the companys ERP system.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- At least two years of buying or planning experience with a bachelor's degree in a supply-chain-related field, or at least three years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of MRP systems and functionality.
- Understanding of bill of materials structure.
- Understanding of material management and inventory flow.
- Experience processing and maintaining purchase orders.
- Experience communicating with suppliers regarding pricing, quantities, lead times, and delivery dates.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in supply chain or a related field with at least two years of buying or planning experience, or at least three years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of MRP systems.
- Understanding of bills of material and material management.
- Previous purchase-order and supplier-management experience.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment
This is an office-based position within a manufacturing environment. The employee may occasionally be around moving equipment, mechanical parts, overhead cranes, welding, machining, painting, and other hazards typically associated with manufacturing operations. The position involves regular sitting, standing, walking, reading, communicating, and concentrating.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $67000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. full benefits, med, vision and dental.
