The Community Affairs Strategist reports to the Director, Community Affairs and is responsible for managing and advancing programs that strengthen associate engagement, community impact, and corporate citizenship across GEICO.
Working closely with Community Affairs leadership, Employee Resource Group (ERG) leaders, nonprofit partners, communications teams, and business stakeholders, this role supports the planning and execution of GEICO’s engagement initiatives, including volunteer programs, philanthropic activities, and community partnerships that make a difference in the offices where we live, work and play.
This role serves as a trusted project lead and thought partner within Community Affairs, helping translate strategy into execution while building strong relationships with leaders, partners, and stakeholders across the enterprise. The successful candidate is a highly organized, agile generalist who can operate independently, represent the function effectively in meetings, and grow into broader leadership responsibilities over time.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Execution (35%)
- Lead project management activities for Community Affairs initiatives, including planning, stakeholder alignment, communications, execution, and follow-through.
- Build and maintain productive relationships across functions to influence stakeholders, advance priorities, and drive program outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to improve participation, effectiveness, and operational efficiency, and develop recommendations to strengthen existing and emerging programs.
- Prepare and occasionally present program updates, insights, and recommendations to leadership.
- Serve as a trusted representative of Community Affairs in cross-functional meetings, capturing decisions, driving accountability, and ensuring timely follow-through on commitments.
Employee Engagement & ERG Support (35%)
- Partner with ERG leaders, business stakeholders, and community partners to identify and execute opportunities that strengthen associate connection, belonging, and engagement.
- Support the planning and delivery of enterprise-wide engagement campaigns, recognition initiatives, observances, and community-focused programming across GEICO’s eight ERGs.
- Collaborate with Communications and cross-functional partners to develop engagement strategies and communications that drive awareness, participation, and impact.
- Develop tools, resources, reporting, and best practices that enable consistent execution, reinforce accountability, and improve program effectiveness across teams and locations.
- Gather and synthesize associate feedback, participation data, and stakeholder insights to identify trends and inform future engagement opportunities.
Community Engagement & Partnerships (25%)
- Manage day-to-day relationships with select nonprofit organizations and engagement vendors, serving as a trusted point of contact for Community Affairs.
- Identify and coordinate opportunities for associates to engage in meaningful volunteer and community experiences that support business and community impact objectives.
- Monitor partner performance, participation outcomes, and program impact, synthesizing insights and recommendations to support continuous improvement.
- Represent Community Affairs in external events, partner meetings, and community activities, helping strengthen relationships and identify new opportunities for engagement and collaboration.
Reporting, Insights & Operations (10%)
- Maintain dashboards, participation metrics, and reporting processes that measure program outcomes and engagement trends.
- Synthesize participation, feedback, and program data into actionable insights and recommendations that inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Support budget management, invoice processing, vendor coordination, and contract administration.
- Prepare materials and coordinate logistics for leadership reviews, community partner meetings, foundation activities, and governance discussions.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in community affairs, volunteerism, philanthropy, corporate social impact, communications, project management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success managing projects or programs involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing presentations, executive updates, and stakeholder-facing communications.
- Proven ability to build productive relationships, influence outcomes, and work effectively across internal teams and external organizations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn data and feedback into actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Copilot, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and collaboration tools.

Working Conditions
- Hybrid work environment (three days onsite per week), with occasional travel for community events, volunteer activities, partner meetings, and organizational gatherings.
- Flexibility to support select engagement activities outside standard business hours as needed.
- Chicago preferred.
Annual Salary
$86,100.00 - $141,450.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
