Job Title: Electrical Drafter Job Description
The Electrical Drafter creates precise electrical drawings and models that support the design, fabrication, and assembly of industrial electrical equipment and structures. This role focuses on developing detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and fabrication drawings while ensuring compliance with relevant electrical and industry standards. The Electrical Drafter collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, production teams, and other designers to deliver accurate, manufacturable designs and maintain documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed electrical drawings, including schematics, single-line and multi-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for a variety of industrial applications.
- Develop fabrication and assembly drawings for electrical enclosures, control panels, power distribution equipment, and related industrial structures such as buildings and cable tray systems.
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support material takeoffs to ensure accurate procurement and manufacturing planning.
- Revise and maintain engineering drawings and documentation throughout project lifecycles, incorporating design changes and updates as needed.
- Coordinate closely with engineers, project managers, production personnel, and sales teams to ensure design accuracy, manufacturability, and alignment with project requirements.
- Produce 2D and 3D models of electrical equipment and industrial structures using CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical and industry standards, including NEC, IEEE, ASTM, and OSHA-related requirements.
- Support design reviews and quality inspections by providing clear drawings, models, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to project documentation efforts, including drawing packages, revision logs, and technical records.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, typically working on 57 projects at a time, while meeting schedule, quality, and coordination expectations.
- Assist with troubleshooting design issues that arise during fabrication and assembly, collaborating with manufacturing and production teams to resolve problems.
- Work effectively within a team of designers, sharing information, coordinating workloads, and supporting overall project delivery.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience with AutoCAD 2D, with AutoCAD Electrical experience considered a strong plus.
- Minimum of 1 year of hands-on electrical drafting experience.
- Proficiency in creating electrical schematics, single-line and 13 line diagrams, and detailed wiring diagrams.
- Working knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) standards.
- Understanding of IEEE standards relevant to electrical design and drafting.
- Familiarity with ASTM standards and their application to industrial and electrical projects.
- Ability to interpret and apply OSHA-related requirements in the context of manufacturing and industrial environments.
- Proficiency with CAD tools for electrical design and drafting, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Ability to produce accurate 2D and 3D models of electrical equipment and industrial structures.
- Experience with electrical design and drafting for buildings, cable trays, control panels, and power distribution equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, project managers, manufacturing, and sales teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree or formal training in drafting technology or a related field is highly beneficial.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment and supporting fabrication and assembly processes.
- Exposure to industrial projects such as data centers, guard shacks, battery buildings, and power inverter installations is advantageous.
- Ability to participate in and support design reviews and quality inspections.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining drawing revisions and project documentation.
- Comfort working in a flat organizational structure with opportunities for upward mobility and professional growth.
- Interest in contributing to a team that is expanding into new business lines and diversifying across multiple industries.
Work Environment
This role is based 100% onsite in a manufacturing and design environment, working closely with a team of approximately five other designers and cross-functional partners in engineering, project management, manufacturing, and sales. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility on start and end times as long as a full eight-hour workday is completed. The workload involves managing and contributing to 57 projects at any given time, requiring strong coordination and communication with internal teams. The environment supports long-term stability and growth, with ongoing project work forecasted for several years and opportunities to advance within a flat organizational structure as the business expands into new lines and diverse industries.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
