Indiana Tech seeks qualified candidates for a position in Residence Life. The Area Coordinator (AC) position is a live-in, 12-month position in our Residence Life Department. The Area Coordinator plays a vital role in facilitating a learning, inclusive, and academically supportive residential community at Indiana Tech. This position supports the mission of Student Affairs and Residence Life by promoting student development, leadership, and student success through programming, leadership development, and administrative oversight. Responsibilities below may rotate between primary and secondary roles, based upon experience, expertise and departmental goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Student Engagement & Community Development

- Demonstrate active support for Student Affairs and Residence Life initiatives.

- Cultivate a residential experience that promotes belonging, respect, academic success, and student retention.

- Assist residents in resolving interpersonal conflicts and navigating developmental challenges.

- Serve as a role model and mentor to students, promoting leadership and personal growth.

Resident Assistant (RA) Leadership

- Recruit, train, and supervise RA staff, providing consistent individual and team meetings focused on leadership, interpersonal skills, and team cohesion.

- Maintain professional and RA on-call rotation schedule.

- Provide ongoing training and development to enhance RA effectiveness.

- Develop and implement programming that supports community development and co-curricular learning.

Housing Operations & Facilities Management

- Oversee housing operations and online program (StarRez) across all residential facilities.

- Coordinate room assignments, room changes, check-in/check-out procedures, and maintain accurate housing records.

- Conduct regular inspections of residential areas and report maintenance issues.

- Collaborate with Building & Grounds, Housekeeping, and Campus Safety to maintain safe and well-functioning living environments.

Administrative Oversight

- Manage area budgets and support programming efforts aligned with departmental learning outcomes.

- Maintain compliance with University policies including FERPA, hazing, and Title IX.

- Assist with summer housing needs, including camp placements, key distribution, and supervision.

Assessment & Strategic Collaboration

- Assess departmental learning outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

- Work closely with the Director of Residence Life to meet or exceed student retention and occupancy goals.

- Collaborate with campus partners to inform and educate students about university procedures and available resources.

- Perform additional duties assigned to support the mission of Residence Life and Student Affairs.

- Support the mission, just cause, and strategic plan of Indiana Institute of Technology.

Qualifications

- Bachelors degree required; masters degree in Higher Education, Student Development or other related field preferred

- Competence in relational, interactive, and conflict mediation skills

- Competence in administrative, teambuilding and organizational skills

- Demonstrated consciousness of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Experience

- 2-3 years of progressive leadership experience working with college students

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment and frequently in residence halls and various campus locations. Evening and weekend hours are required for campus events and various activities.
