About the Role
This is your opportunity to take ownership of a dynamic and rewarding underwriting role at the heart of Swiss Re's Facultative EMEA business. As an Underwriter Facultative Property for the Western & Southern Europe Desk, you will evaluate, underwrite, and originate facultative property businesses across a diverse and exciting range of risk types.
Property facultative underwriting is at the core of Swiss Re’s reinsurance and directly contributes to its commercial success. You’ll engage with clients on their largest property risks while connecting internally with colleagues across front- and back-office teams. Working in a highly international environment, you’ll interact with clients across major European markets and gain global exposure.
This role offers significant space to develop your own ideas, find creative solutions, and directly contribute to the growth and success of our franchise.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite facultative property risks across Western & Southern European markets, applying sound technical judgement and leveraging state-of-the-art modelling tools
- Originate new business by identifying and pursuing opportunities across the region, contributing to portfolio growth and profitability
- Assess a wide range of risk types , including fire, natural catastrophe, and industrial property risks, using both experience and cutting-edge analytical tools
- Foster and develop client and broker relationships , building trust and long-term partnerships that deliver value for both clients and Swiss Re
- Contribute to portfolio steering , monitoring performance and supporting data-driven decision-making
- Collaborate cross-functionally with key account managers, client managers, market underwriters, and treaty underwriters to deliver integrated solutions
- Share knowledge and expertise across the team, supporting a culture of continuous learning and professional development
- Develop creative, tailored solutions for clients, bringing an entrepreneurial mindset and fresh perspective to complex challenges
About the Team
P&C Reinsurance is Swiss Re's largest Business Unit, spanning four dynamic underwriting units: Property, Casualty, Specialty, and Facultative. As part of this role, you'll join the Global Facultative Market Unit in EMEA — a truly international and diverse team of around 90 colleagues spread across EMEA locations, where collaboration and team spirit are embedded in everything we do.
Our underwriters bring deep expertise and strong, long-standing market relationships, having built a leading franchise in the FAC EMEA markets with a proud track record of excellence in single-risk underwriting. We are looking for candidates who ideally meet these requirements:
- Facultative property underwriting experience: Experience in underwriting commercial and industrial property risks, with the ability to assess and price complex risks confidently
- Multilingual ability: Proficiency in English required. Any other European language like French, Spanish, or Italian is an advantage given the Western & Southern European market focus
- University degree: A completed Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD — preferably in Economics, Engineering, Science, or a related discipline
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset: Ability to interpret complex data, draw meaningful insights, and maintain high attention to detail
- Collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit: A team player who can also work independently, take initiative, and bring innovative thinking to the role
- Excellent communication skills: Clear and confident communicator in English, comfortable engaging with clients, brokers, and senior stakeholders
- Technical proficiency in MS Office: Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, Copilot, with the ability to analyse data, build presentations, and communicate findings effectively
- Knowledge of Power BI and GenAI tools: Experience using data visualisation and AI-assisted tools to enhance underwriting analysis and reporting
Salary & Benefits
For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 100 000 CHF and 150 000 CHF for a full-time role.

- The applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Furthermore, you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
