Key Responsibilities
•Responsibilities for software implementation focus on improving productivity and reducing downtime through:
- Programming & Configuration: End-to-end implementation of operation technology systems, specifically the programming and configuration of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMI (Human Machine Interface), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) .
- System Integration: Managing the integration of various components and technologies, including software integration for data management and control .
Testing, Validation, and Commissioning
Controls engineers ensure the reliability of the system through:
- Validation: Testing and validating automation system functions and creating customized automated testing for systems, integration, and peak load handling .
- Implementation Oversight: Managing the process from software deployment and integration to User Acceptance Testing (UAT), production cut-off, and user training .
- Simulation & Emulation: Utilizing simulation tools (such as Unity, FlexSim, Rockwell Emulate 3D, and Nvidia Omniverse) to create digital twins, allowing for the virtual testing of hardware configurations and software updates before physical deployment .
Operational Support and Maintenance
To ensure maximum uptime and efficiency, responsibilities include:
- Sustaining Engineering: Providing 24/7 operational support and sustaining engineering to minimize downtime and extend the core life of products .
- Modernization: Performing legacy code refactoring to improve software reliability and efficiency, and implementing system upgrades .
- Performance Optimization: Using data analytics and machine learning to identify data sources and optimize warehouse operations and preventative maintenance .
