## Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.  This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.

This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

## Job Summary:

The Industrial Hygiene Specialist supports implementation of the project's industrial hygiene and occupational health program on site under the direction of the Industrial Hygiene Supervisor and EHS Operations Manager. The role carries out exposure assessments and monitoring, implements approved controls, maintains reliable exposure records, and provides practical technical advice supported by field evidence. It is a specialist contributor role focused on technical implementation, not supervision of staff, ownership of the program or deputising for the EHS Operations Manager.

## Major Responsibilities:

- Implement the project Industrial Hygiene (IH) program, including hazard assessments, exposure monitoring strategies, exposure records, and statutory registers.
- Conduct personal, area, and atmospheric monitoring for occupational health hazards, including welding fumes, metal particulates, respirable crystalline silica, noise, vibration, solvents, coatings, isocyanates, diesel particulates, lead, asbestos, and confined space atmospheres.
- Evaluate monitoring results against applicable occupational exposure limits and corporate standards, communicate findings, and escalate exceedances or concerns.
- Maintain sampling equipment, calibration records, chain of custody documentation, laboratory coordination, and quality assurance processes to ensure reliable exposure data.
- Apply the hierarchy of controls and recommend practical exposure reduction measures, prioritizing substitution and engineering controls over administrative controls and personal protective equipment.
- Support respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazardous substances management, heat and cold stress prevention, and occupational health surveillance programs.
- Review risk assessments, method statements, and material submittals to identify occupational health risks and recommend appropriate controls, monitoring requirements, and worker competencies.
- Provide Industrial Hygiene support for permit-controlled activities, including confined space entry and hot work, ensuring appropriate atmospheric testing, ventilation, and gas detection arrangements.
- Monitor workplace welfare, sanitation, potable water, food safety, chemical management, and accommodation arrangements, identifying and escalating deficiencies.
- Coordinate with occupational health providers, EHS personnel, subcontractors, and project teams to support health surveillance, exposure assessments, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance.
- Analyze exposure trends, review subcontractor monitoring data, contribute to investigations of occupational illnesses or overexposures, and verify corrective actions.
- Deliver occupational health training and workforce awareness programs on exposure hazards, control measures, and monitoring results.Prepare technical reports, exposure data, and trend analyses to support project, customer, regulatory, and corporate reviews.
- Provide field-based technical expertise to the Industrial Hygiene Supervisor and EHS Operations Manager, operating within delegated authority and escalating significant occupational health concerns.

## Education and Experience Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Chemistry, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Proven experience in exposure assessment, industrial hygiene monitoring, and implementation of occupational health controls on construction or industrial projects.
- Professional certification such as CIH, BOHS, or an equivalent industrial hygiene credential is preferred.
- Experience on nuclear, power generation, or other highly regulated projects is advantageous.

## Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Strong knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, exposure assessment, representative sampling, and interpretation of exposure data.
- Experience using occupational monitoring equipment, including sampling pumps, gas detectors, sound level meters, dosimeters, vibration meters, and dust monitoring instruments.
- In-depth understanding of construction-related health hazards and controls, particularly welding fumes, respirable crystalline silica, noise, vibration, solvents, and coatings.
- Knowledge of Polish occupational health regulations, exposure limits, chemical management requirements, and relevant EU standards.
- Practical understanding of engineering controls and ventilation systems, with the ability to identify risks and recommend improvements.
- Ability to communicate occupational health risks, monitoring results, and control measures effectively to workers, supervisors, and stakeholders.
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements related to health and exposure data.Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and occupational health management systems.
- Strong written and verbal English skills; Polish language proficiency is an advantage.
- Collaborative approach, with a commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous professional development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industrial hygiene data management systems, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
