## Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.

This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

## Job Summary:

The EHS Supervisor for Balance of Plant delivers EHS execution across an assigned portion of the BOP scope, working to the direction and standards set by the Lead EHS Advisor for Balance of Plant. The role supervises the EHS advisors and officers covering its areas, is present at the workface through the shift, and holds the standard with the crews, supervision and subcontractors working there. It is a senior field position carrying full technical credibility and stop-work authority within its areas, and the post-holder is expected to resolve most matters at their own level and bring the Lead the ones that cross area boundaries, set precedent, or need escalation beyond Balance of Plant.

## Major Responsibilities:

#### Field Execution in Assigned Areas

• Leads day-to-day EHS execution across assigned BOP areas and shifts, maintaining a strong field presence and providing visible support to supervision and craft workers.

• Supervises EHS Advisors and Officers, setting daily priorities, coordinating coverage, providing coaching, and developing field competency.

• Exercises stop-work authority when required, supports team interventions, and promptly escalates significant issues to the Lead.

• Participates in daily planning meetings, pre-job briefings, and shift handovers to ensure EHS requirements are integrated before work begins.

• Conducts routine field inspections, walkdowns, and behavioural observations, addressing unsafe conditions and verifying corrective actions.

• Reviews and verifies risk assessments, method statements, permits, lift plans, isolation schemes, and other high-risk activity controls, escalating critical or non-routine activities as required.

• Ensures compliance with BOP safety standards, including lifting operations, work at height, excavations, confined spaces, pressure testing, hot work, energy isolation, high-voltage systems, and mobile equipment management.

• Monitors simultaneous operations and interface risks across assigned areas, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure risks are effectively managed.

• Verifies implementation of environmental controls, permit requirements, and environmental compliance measures within assigned work areas.

Subcontractor Management, Workforce Engagement and Support to the Lead

• Monitors subcontractor compliance with contractual and project EHS requirements, manages field non-conformances, and escalates recurring or significant issues.

• Evaluates the adequacy of subcontractor EHS supervision and recommends improvements where necessary.

• Responds to incidents, secures the scene, supports emergency response activities, and participates in investigations and corrective action management.

• Promotes workforce engagement through toolbox talks, safety meetings, awareness campaigns, and positive safety recognition programs.

• Provides the Lead with field performance data, inspection findings, observations, and emerging trends to support project-wide EHS reporting and decision-making.

• Supports customer, regulatory, and corporate inspections, representing EHS performance and conditions within the assigned areas.

• Acts as deputy to the Lead EHS Advisor when required and provides support across other BOP areas based on project priorities and operational needs.

## Education and Experience Requirements:

- Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to an environmental, health, safety or science-related discipline and a minimum of 10 years of EHS experience, the majority site-based on major construction projects, including experience supervising EHS personnel in the field. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of recognised professional certification and additional relevant construction EHS experience may be considered.
- Experience of Balance of Plant or comparable conventional power, heavy industrial or process plant construction is essential - turbine island erection, large mechanical and piping installation, water systems, tankage or high-voltage electrical works. Nuclear project experience is an advantage but conventional power and heavy industrial backgrounds are equally valued for this scope.

## Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Strong practical knowledge of the BOP scope's hazards and their field controls: rigging and lifting operations, work at height and scaffold, excavation and ground support, confined space entry, hydrotest and pressure testing, energy isolation and lockout, hot work and fire watch, and mobile plant movement in congested areas.
- Confident reviewing lift plans, method statements and permits, with the judgement to know which ones exceed the assigned areas' authority and belong with the Lead.
- Proven ability to supervise field EHS personnel, including coaching less experienced advisors and holding a consistent standard across crews, shifts and subcontractors.
- A recognised EHS professional certification such as NEBOSH International Diploma or General Certificate, CSP, or chartered membership of IOSH or an equivalent body.
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, and of the environmental controls and permit conditions applicable to major construction works.
- Familiarity with Polish health, safety and environmental legislation and European Union directives, or the demonstrated ability to work to an unfamiliar national regulatory framework with local specialist support.
- Credible with craft and front-line supervision - able to stop a job, explain why, and keep the working relationship intact afterwards.
- Works well within a defined scope and reporting line, keeps the Lead informed without needing to be asked, and applies a common standard rather than an individual interpretation of it.
- Strong written and spoken English; Polish language ability is an advantage for workforce and subcontractor engagement.
- Eager to mentor others and pursue their development, with experience building national EHS capability in a host country.
- Proficient in MS Office and in EHS data and incident management systems used for field reporting.
