About this role
Bring the Comfort of Conversation and Connection
Sometimes, there is nothing quite like being able to chat, laugh and share memories in the language that feels most familiar.
We’re looking for a warm and caring Mandarin-speaking volunteer to spend time with one of our Mandarin-speaking residents and bring a little extra companionship to her week.
She is a friendly lady who enjoys spending time in the garden, going for gentle walks, and practising her English. Your visits might include talking in Mandarin and English about family, favourite foods, festivals and traditions, or enjoying a stroll through the garden together.
For an older person, having someone who can speak their language and take a genuine interest in their stories can bring a wonderful sense of comfort, belonging and connection.
You don’t need any special experience. We’re simply looking for someone who is kind, patient, a good listener and genuinely enjoys spending time with older people.
If you speak Mandarin and would enjoy forming a meaningful connection with an older member of our community, we’d love to hear from you.
Your impact
Volunteering as a social visitor
can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as
yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life
and help people feel less isolated.
