Job Title: Construction Superintendent Job Description
The Construction Superintendent provides day-to-day field leadership and supervision of commercial construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. This role coordinates subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel, maintains project schedules, and upholds high standards of quality and safety on complex, large-scale projects. The superintendent serves as a key on-site leader, working closely with project teams to drive successful project delivery while supporting a people-focused culture and strong internal resources.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily on-site leadership and supervision of construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to maintain the overall project schedule and ensure work progresses in a timely and orderly manner.
- Take an active leadership role in jobsite safety and ensure strict compliance with established safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Lead daily coordination of field activities and clearly communicate upcoming work, priorities, and potential issues to the project team and field personnel.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and other contract documents to verify that work is performed correctly and in accordance with design intent.
- Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to align field operations with project goals.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, manpower levels, productivity, and quality of work, and address any performance issues promptly.
- Develop and maintain short-term construction schedules and look-ahead plans to anticipate upcoming activities and resource needs.
- Identify potential scheduling, constructability, or coordination issues early and work proactively with the project team to resolve them.
- Coordinate MEP trades and ensure their work is properly sequenced and integrated with architectural and structural scopes.
- Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates regarding field progress, scheduling, safety performance, and subcontractor status.
- Oversee site logistics, including material deliveries, equipment coordination, and overall jobsite organization to maintain an efficient and orderly site.
- Maintain quality standards and ensure completed work conforms to plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Assist with inspections, punch lists, project turnover, and project closeout to ensure a smooth and complete handover.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, subcontractors, design teams, and other project partners to support collaborative project delivery.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of construction field supervision experience with a general contractor, construction manager, or large trade contractor.
- Proven experience in commercial construction and construction management.
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple construction trades on active job sites.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and contract documents.
- Experience managing project schedules and coordinating day-to-day field operations.
- OSHA 30 certification (required).
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and jobsite safety management.
- Hands-on experience in construction supervision and superintendent responsibilities.
- Ability to oversee and coordinate general contractor and subcontractor activities effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in commercial construction projects with a focus on large, complex work.
- Experience working for or with general contractors, construction managers, or large trade contractors.
- Strong subcontractor management skills, including performance monitoring and coordination.
- Ability to interpret and apply construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Strong communication and coordination skills for working with project managers, project engineers, design teams, and owners.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain short-term schedules and look-ahead plans.

Work Environment
This role is based on an assigned project site and requires presence on site 5 days per week. The superintendent works in an active construction environment, coordinating field activities, subcontractors, and site logistics on large, complex commercial projects. The work setting involves regular interaction with field crews, subcontractors, and project teams, and requires consistent attention to safety, organization, and schedule adherence. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Providence, RI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.88 - $72.11/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
