Job Title: Project Engineer Job Description
The Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of large, complex commercial construction projects by managing change processes, maintaining accurate project controls, and coordinating critical project activities under the direction of the Project Manager. This role contributes directly to project financial performance, schedule adherence, and quality by providing timely data, facilitating effective communication among stakeholders, and supporting a collaborative, people-focused culture.
Responsibilities
- Manage the change management process effectively under the direction of the Project Manager, ensuring timely documentation, review, and implementation of changes.
- Serve as a key contributor during monthly cost report meetings by preparing and presenting accurate project data, cost updates, and performance metrics.
- Follow established project controls procedures, including monthly cost control, pay requests, and cost reporting, to support accurate financial tracking and forecasting.
- Coordinate and expedite material deliveries to maintain project schedules and minimize delays, working closely with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Review and evaluate shop drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements, specifications, and design intent.
- Identify and encourage innovative approaches to project challenges and opportunities, contributing ideas that improve efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Support business development efforts by identifying client needs, potential project opportunities, and feedback that can strengthen future pursuits.
- Proactively review client feedback and help maintain strong relationships with owners, project partners, and other stakeholders through clear communication and responsive follow-up.
- Coach and mentor less-experienced team members, sharing knowledge of construction practices, project controls, and company processes.
- Support a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment by fostering teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect across the project team.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of construction experience with a general contractor, construction manager, or large trade contractor.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience in project management and construction management within commercial construction environments.
- Hands-on experience with project engineering tasks such as RFIs, change orders, and shop drawing review.
- Proficiency with Procore for project management and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented construction environment.
- Understanding of project financials, cost management, and overall project performance.

Work Environment
This role is based on an assigned project site, with a schedule of five days per week on-site. The work environment centers on large, complex commercial construction projects where the Project Engineer collaborates closely with project managers, field teams, trade partners, and project stakeholders. The position relies on regular use of project management technologies such as Procore and Microsoft Office, along with established project controls and reporting tools. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Providence, RI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $48.08/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
