Job Title: Superintendent of Construction Job Description
This role leads the ground-up construction of commercial self-storage facilities from initial sitework through final completion. The Construction Superintendent oversees all on-site activities, ensuring that safety, quality, budget, and schedule objectives are consistently achieved. The position requires close coordination with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, project managers, owners, and design teams to deliver high-quality, code-compliant projects on time.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all on-site construction activities for commercial self-storage projects from sitework through project completion.
- Ensure that safety, quality, budget, and schedule goals are consistently met throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and daily field operations to keep the project moving efficiently.
- Monitor project schedules, track progress, and proactively resolve construction issues to maintain milestones and deadlines.
- Conduct regular quality control inspections to verify compliance with construction drawings, specifications, building codes, and owner expectations.
- Lead site safety efforts, including implementing OSHA safety practices and conducting daily safety meetings.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with project managers, owners, and design teams regarding project status, issues, and changes.
- Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including daily reports and construction management records.
- Coordinate sitework, foundations, concrete, structural steel, pre-engineered metal buildings, and building envelope construction activities.
- Identify potential risks or delays early and implement corrective actions to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of commercial construction supervision experience, preferably with self-storage, light industrial, retail, or multi-building projects.
- Strong knowledge of sitework, foundations, concrete, structural steel, pre-engineered metal buildings, and building envelope construction.
- Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and coordinate their activities effectively on active job sites.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining project milestones and schedules in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA safety regulations and their application on active construction sites.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, specifications, and local building codes.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to direct field teams and foster a culture of safety and quality.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with project managers, owners, design teams, and field personnel.
- Solid problem-solving and organizational skills to manage competing priorities and resolve field issues quickly.
- Proficiency in construction management software and daily reporting tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with ground-up self-storage projects or similar multi-building developments.
- Background in light industrial or retail construction environments.
- Familiarity with pre-engineered metal building systems and their erection processes.
- Ability to adapt to changing project conditions and maintain composure under pressure.
- Track record of delivering projects on time while upholding high standards of workmanship and safety.
Work Environment
The role is based on ground-up construction sites for commercial self-storage facilities. Work takes place primarily outdoors and in active construction environments, involving coordination of sitework, foundations, structural steel, pre-engineered metal buildings, and building envelope systems. The Superintendent works closely with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, project managers, owners, and design teams in a fast-paced setting focused on meeting schedule and quality goals. The position requires consistent presence on-site, active participation in daily field operations, and adherence to OSHA safety practices throughout the project.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
