Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Production / Fill Technician Job Description
This Pharmacy Technician role focuses on production and fill operations in a closed-door mail order pharmacy. You will work on the production floor to accurately fill, label, and package prescriptions while supporting pharmacists with order entry, customer support, and quality assurance activities. Responsibilities
- Work on the production floor to accurately fill prescriptions in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications in accordance with prescriptions and established procedures.
- Label and package medications for mail order distribution, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Verify that all prescriptions are filled correctly and meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and maintain medication inventory levels to support uninterrupted operations.
- Order medications and supplies as needed to ensure adequate stock is available.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and assist with inventory audits to maintain accurate stock records.
- Input prescription and patient data into the pharmacy information system with a high level of accuracy.
- Assist with resolving issues related to delayed, incorrect, or incomplete orders.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to pharmacy practice.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of prescription orders, transactions, and related documentation.
- Protect the confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with privacy regulations and company policies.
- Participate in quality assurance programs to support the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of pharmacy services.
- Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
- Report any medication errors, discrepancies, or concerns promptly to the supervising pharmacist.
- Support pharmacists with administrative tasks as needed, including documentation and communication.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized pharmacy work area, including production and storage areas.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain and improve job-related skills.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations.
- Cross-train on the Order Entry Team to support end-to-end prescription processing.
- Provide professional and empathetic customer support by addressing inquiries, resolving complaints, and managing escalations.
- Accurately process customer orders and ensure timely fulfillment and shipment.
- Implement and refine processes to streamline customer service and order processing operations.
- Monitor and evaluate customer service interactions to maintain high standards of service quality and compliance.
- Perform Drug Utilization Review (DUR) checks and drug interaction checks as required.
- Follow up with patients and providers to clarify orders, address issues, and support continuity of care.
- Respond to two-way texting communications in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
- Handle phone calls related to prescriptions, prior authorizations, and order status.
- Support prior authorization and fulfillment workflows as needed.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in a retail or mail order pharmacy setting.
- Active Pharmacy Technician license or certification as required by state law.
- Demonstrated experience as a pharmacy technician in production, fill, or fulfillment environments.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when filling prescriptions, entering data, and handling patient information.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and related technology.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with pharmacists, patients, providers, and colleagues.
- Proven customer service skills, including handling inquiries, complaints, and escalations with professionalism and empathy.
- Ability to perform accurate and efficient data entry for prescription and patient information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to conduct DUR checks and identify potential drug interactions under pharmacist supervision.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
- Pharmacy Technician Board Certification (such as CPhT) is a plus.
- Experience in a mail order, closed-door, or call center pharmacy environment is beneficial.
- Experience with prior authorization processes and fulfillment workflows is advantageous.
- Background in customer service or call center operations is helpful.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Comfort working with phone systems, two-way texting platforms, and other communication tools.
- Interest in participating in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Motivation to contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency in a growing organization.
Work Environment
This role is based in a closed-door mail order pharmacy environment. You will work primarily on the production floor and in an order entry and customer support setting, handling prescription fulfillment, data entry, and communications with patients and providers. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with training conducted on a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a 30-minute break. The pharmacy operates in a structured, fast-paced environment that relies on pharmacy software systems, data entry tools, phone systems, and two-way texting platforms. The culture emphasizes growth, support, and accessibility of leadership, with a small but rapidly growing team, supportive executive leadership, and expanding pharmacy operations. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
