Telehealth Medical Assistant Job Description This fully remote Telehealth Medical Assistant position offers certified medical assistants the opportunity to support patients in a high-volume virtual care environment. You will guide patients in using their telehealth kits, collect and document vital signs accurately, and provide compassionate, customer-focused support over the phone. The role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining strict HIPAA privacy standards. Responsibilities
- Assist patients remotely with the use of their telehealth kits, providing clear instructions and guidance to ensure accurate use.
- Handle a high volume of inbound calls while delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a professional, empathetic tone.
- Collect, review, and accurately document patients vital signs in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Apply strong clinical judgment to identify and escalate out-of-range vital signs or concerning patient conditions according to established protocols.
- Use telehealth platforms and tools to support patient care and communicate effectively with patients and care teams.
- Perform phone triage by assessing patient concerns, asking appropriate questions, and directing patients to the appropriate next steps as needed.
- Utilize Athena or other EHR systems to enter, update, and maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Protect patient confidentiality at all times by following HIPAA guidelines and working only from a private, enclosed workspace.
- Manage time effectively to meet productivity expectations in a high-volume remote environment.
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues with telehealth platforms or patient equipment and provide clear guidance to patients.
- Collaborate with telehealth team members and follow established workflows, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in required training, including initial training sessions conducted during specified daytime hours in Eastern Time.
Essential Skills
- Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT.
- Minimum of 3 years of RECENT experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Strong clinical experience with the ability to recognize and act on out-of-range vital signs.
- Experience with Athena or similar EHR systems.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service and communicate effectively and empathetically with patients.
- Strong phone-based patient care and phone triage skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote work environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Tech-savvy with the ability to work confidently with computers and digital tools.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection suitable for telehealth work.
- Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance by working from a private, enclosed workspace.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday on an assigned shift aligned to Eastern Time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a telehealth or remote healthcare setting is preferred.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Experience in high-volume call environments or customer service roles.
- Comfort working in a structured, metrics-driven environment with defined workflows.
Work Environment This role is 100% remote, allowing certified medical assistants to work from any location within the United States while operating on Eastern Time. The schedule is Monday through Friday with no weekend or holiday work, and standard shifts run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST or 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST. During the first week, you must be available between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST for training. You will work in a high-volume telehealth environment, supporting a large virtual team of CMAs across multiple shifts. A private, enclosed home office with a door is required to ensure HIPAA-compliant privacy; working from public or shared spaces such as coffee shops or libraries is not permitted. You will use telehealth platforms, computers, headsets, and EHR systems such as Athena throughout the day. The position is structured as a contract role, offering valuable exposure to telehealth and remote care workflows in a fully virtual clinical setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
