Job Title: Construction Project Engineer Job Description
This role offers an opportunity to join a fast-growing mechanical contractors Major Projects group as a Construction Project Engineer. You will provide critical project management support to Project Managers and field teams, focusing on communication, scheduling, document control, procurement, and cost forecasting. You will collaborate closely with superintendents, forepersons, engineers, detailers, and leadership to help deliver high-quality, profitable mechanical and plumbing projects across the Pacific Northwest.
Responsibilities
- Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to support accurate project financials and profitability.
- Assist in the buyout and procurement process for major equipment and subcontracts, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing.
- Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials to keep projects on schedule.
- Maintain a working knowledge of general conditions, scope of work, and specifications for project contracts and subcontracts.
- Maintain and control project documents in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize, and schedule project work, including preparing integrated subcontract and contract project schedules.
- Review contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements and support field execution.
- Prepare fabrication shop work packages, including reviewing detail drawings, performing material takeoffs, supporting buyout, and developing man-hour fabrication budgets.
- Ensure full compliance with the Safety Program at the jobsite and promote a strong safety culture.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and promptness to support project continuity and team coordination.
- Use tools such as MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus to manage project information and workflows, with on-the-job training provided as needed.
- Develop an understanding of construction sequencing, particularly for mechanical and plumbing scopes of work, and apply this knowledge to planning and coordination.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members through clear and professional communication.
- Develop and retain knowledge of mechanical systems, including engineering principles, estimating practices, construction methods, and financial management.
- Support project management tasks such as RFIs, submittals, and change orders to ensure clear documentation and timely resolution of issues.
Essential Skills
- 1+ year of experience as a Project Engineer at a mechanical contractor.
- 1+ year of experience tracking construction materials and labor on active projects.
- 1+ year of experience communicating with subcontractors and clients regarding project schedules.
- Experience with project management and construction management in a mechanical construction environment.
- Experience supporting or managing change orders, RFIs, submittals, and related project documentation.
- Understanding of mechanical construction and mechanical installation practices.
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to learn and use Bluebeam, Smartsheet, OneDrive, MS Teams, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus, with training provided.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills to support coordination with project stakeholders.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced project environment.
- Commitment to jobsite safety and adherence to safety programs and procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management, or a related field, is accepted for entry-level candidates.
- Experience with submittal processing, RFIs, and change orders is a plus.
- Experience with BIM coordination or mechanical design is a plus.
- Interest in developing deeper expertise in mechanical systems, including engineering, estimating, construction practices, and financial management.
- Ability to support estimating and BIM coordination activities when needed.
- Strong relationship-building skills with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Motivation to grow within a fast-expanding mechanical contractor and gain exposure to complex major projects.
Work Environment
You will initially receive onsite training at a hospital project in Lakewood, Washington, with the expectation of traveling to jobsites throughout the greater Seattle area as needed. Upcoming projects are anticipated in locations such as Bellevue, Kirkland, and Seattle. The role involves working closely with field and office teams in an active construction environment, using a variety of project management and construction technology tools, including MS Office, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, collaboration platforms, and Autodesk-based systems. You will support major mechanical and plumbing projects in a dynamic, growth-oriented organization that offers exposure to complex, large-scale work across the Pacific Northwest.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lynnwood, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $43.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
