By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.   Newmont's Merian operation is an open-pit gold mine located approximately 66 kilometers south of Moengo in the tropical rainforest of north-eastern Suriname. Construction began in 2014, with commercial production commencing in 2016. The operation includes five open pits and processes ore using a conventional mill and Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) circuit. Newmont owns a 75% interest in Merian, with the remaining 25% held by Suriname’s state-owned oil company. ##### Purpose

To support safe operational activities and assigned technical and improvement projects while developing the knowledge, skills and professional capabilities required within the relevant discipline through a structured two-year rotational development program.

##### Essential Duties

- Complete planned rotations within the assigned technical discipline to gain broad operational experience.
- Support operational, technical, engineering, business improvement, and project initiatives.
- Collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate technical and operational data.
- Participate in field activities to develop practical knowledge of operational processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, reliability, quality, and cost performance.
- Prepare reports, presentations, recommendations, and project updates.
- Develop an understanding of Newmont's safety culture, values, systems, and business processes through learning, development, coaching, and mentorship opportunities.
- Build collaborative relationships across operational and support functions.

##### Training & Experience

Knowledge:

- Bachelor's or master’s degree in mining, Metallurgical, Chemical or Process Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering, Geosciences or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of the principles, analytical methods and technical concepts of the field of study, and how these apply in a mining or industrial operational environment.
- Foundational understanding of health and safety principles, including hazard identification and risk management.
- Foundational understanding of business improvement principles and practices.
- Between 0 and 2 years of professional work experience in a technical, engineering or operational role relevant to the field of study.

Technical skills:

- Foundational proficiency in applying technical and engineering principles from the field of study to practical, operational tasks under supervision.
- Foundational proficiency in collecting, analyzing and interpreting technical and operational data to support problem solving and decision making.
- Foundational proficiency with discipline-relevant software, data analysis tools and Microsoft Office.
- Foundational proficiency in preparing technical reports and presenting findings clearly to colleagues and supervisors.
- Foundational proficiency in applying standard operating procedures, safety rules and risk controls in operational and field environments.
- Foundational proficiency with project and/or contract management.

##### Working Conditions

Work Location: Merian, Sipaliwini

Wokr schedule: 14 days of work, 7 days off, 10 hours
