Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. ##### Purpose
As the Supervisor, Engineering Services, you will lead a multi-disciplinary Engineering Services team, providing critical support to site operations through safe, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions. In this leadership role, you will drive the delivery of fit-for-purpose designs, technical drawings, specification updates, operational readiness initiatives, and continuous improvement projects that enhance reliability, safety, and performance.
Working closely with operational and maintenance stakeholders, you will ensure engineering services are delivered efficiently and to a high standard, enabling the business to achieve its production and operational objectives while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and value.
##### Essential Duties
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary Engineering Services team, providing technical support and engineering solutions that enable safe, reliable, and efficient site operations.
- Plan, prioritise and coordinate team workloads to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality engineering designs, technical services, and project outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen engineering practices, enhance asset integrity, and reduce lifecycle costs across the operation.
- Oversee the delivery of mechanical, electrical and civil design projects, from concept through to implementation, ensuring robust review processes and engineering excellence.
- Manage the execution of OPEX projects, delivering safe, fit-for-purpose solutions on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure the application and continuous improvement of engineering standards, maintaining compliance with PNG regulatory requirements and relevant Australian Standards.
- Support and contribute to CAPEX projects, working closely with stakeholders to provide engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor industry and regulatory developments, ensuring site systems, standards and engineering practices remain current and effective.
- Champion document control and engineering governance, ensuring accurate design documentation, specifications, approvals, and record management.
- Lead and influence change through the Management of Change (MOC) process, ensuring risks are identified and managed effectively.
- Coach, mentor and develop engineers, designers, graduates and emerging talent, building technical capability across the broader engineering team.
- Foster strong cross-functional relationships, collaborating with operations, maintenance, projects and business support teams to achieve shared goals.
##### Training & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering, or related fields
- Significant demonstrated experience in mining or heavy industries
- Registered IEPNG members advantageous
- Proven experience leading design management and major project delivery, with a track record of successfully developing and executing complex engineering solutions
- Strong knowledge of engineering design systems and software, with the ability to provide leadership across multiple disciplines
- Extensive experience within large-scale processing plants or similar heavy industrial environments, bringing practical expertise to complex operational challenges
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, delivering reliable engineering support to critical fixed plant assets
- Hands-on understanding of complex processing facilities and supporting infrastructure, enabling practical and effective decision-making
- Exceptional planning, prioritisation and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and deliver results
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, coupled with a keen eye for detail and commitment to quality outcomes
- Ability to work autonomously while fostering a positive, collaborative and high-performance team culture
- Results-driven and technically focused, with a systematic approach to engineering design and a passion for delivering safe, efficient and fit-for-purpose solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively
