Job Title: Phlebotomist Float (East) Job Description
This float phlebotomist position provides hands-on experience in outpatient settings across multiple locations. You will perform high-volume blood draws, process and package specimens, and coordinate with clinic staff to ensure timely collection and shipment of samples to the testing facility. The role offers both stationary and float opportunities and includes performance-based raises at six months.
Responsibilities
- Perform 2530 blood draws per day, ensuring accurate venipuncture and specimen collection in an outpatient environment.
- Correctly follow the order of draw and use BD Vacutainer tube colors appropriately for multiple tube collections.
- Process specimens according to established procedures, including labeling, handling, and preparation for transport.
- Package samples securely and accurately to maintain specimen integrity during pickup and shipping.
- Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule blood draws for patients at each location.
- Coordinate pickup and shipment schedules for collected samples to the medical testing site in Novi/Farmington.
- Work collaboratively with a partner phlebotomist to complete all daily draws across assigned locations.
- Maintain accurate records of draws, processing steps, and shipments in line with clinic and laboratory protocols.
- Uphold safety, infection control, and quality standards while performing phlebotomy procedures.
- Adapt to a float schedule, traveling between up to seven different outpatient facilities during the workweek.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant performing blood draws, processing, and packaging samples.
- Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or completion of a relevant certificate program.
- Documented experience of 200 or more solo blood draws.
- Strong phlebotomy skills, including venipuncture and specimen collection in an outpatient setting.
- Ability to accurately follow the order of draw for multiple tube collections.
- Knowledge of BD Vacutainer tube colors and their correct sequence in the order of draw.
- Competence in specimen processing, including labeling, handling, and preparation for shipment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and laboratory personnel.
- Reliability and availability to work without planned time off in the next 90 days.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in outpatient clinics or long-term care facilities.
- Comfort working as part of a small, partner-based phlebotomy team.
- Ability to manage a consistent daily volume of blood draws while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Strong organizational skills to handle scheduling, specimen processing, and shipment coordination across multiple sites.
- Attention to detail to ensure proper tube selection, labeling, and packaging.
- Flexibility to work in both stationary and float phlebotomy positions as needed.
Work Environment
This role is based in outpatient and care facility settings across seven locations on the east side, with a float schedule that does not require visiting every site each day. You will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., partnering with another phlebotomist to complete all daily draws. The team wears navy blue scrubs as standard attire. The environment involves regular interaction with clinic staff and patients, use of standard phlebotomy equipment including BD Vacutainer systems, and adherence to clinical safety and infection control protocols. The position offers opportunities for hands-on phlebotomy experience, a mix of stationary and float assignments, and performance-based raises at six months.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington Hills, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
