Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of custom mechanical equipment for vacuum impregnation systems and related industrial applications. In this role, you focus heavily on CAD design, detailing, and documentation while collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, and customers to bring equipment from initial concept through fabrication, assembly, and production. You contribute directly to a growing engineering team that designs and manufactures specialized equipment used across automotive, EV, aerospace, defense, industrial, medical, and other advanced industries.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom mechanical equipment using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar CAD software.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, layouts, and manufacturing drawings to support fabrication and assembly.
- Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Modify and update existing designs based on customer requirements and feedback from internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with engineering and fabrication teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet performance requirements.
- Assist with equipment layouts, component selection, and design improvements for new and existing products.
- Support the transition of designs from concept through fabrication, assembly, and final commissioning.
- Review completed equipment and address design-related issues, changes, or revisions as needed.
- Contribute to projects such as updating documentation, designing vacuum impregnation tanks, piping and schematics, and other custom equipment.
- Apply basic calculations and engineering principles to support structural loading, drive sizing, conveyance systems, and related mechanical design decisions.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience in OEM design, machine design, or equipment design.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor for mechanical design and detailing.
- Hands-on experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings and prints.
- Ability to design custom mechanical equipment and systems in a manufacturing-focused environment.
- Strong mechanical design skills, including 3D modeling, assembly design, and layout development.
- Experience generating accurate manufacturing drawings and documentation to support production.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, fabrication, and manufacturing teams.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining BOMs, specifications, and technical documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working directly within a manufacturing environment and supporting production teams.
- Ability to perform calculations for complex systems, including structural loading, drive sizing, and conveyance systems.
- Experience sizing water pumps, gear motors, and cylinders for industrial equipment.
- Exposure to hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their application in custom machinery.
- Familiarity with light industrial electrical systems as they relate to mechanical equipment.
- Comfort working on projects involving vacuum impregnation equipment, large tanks, piping, and schematics.
- Interest in contributing to a growing engineering team and taking on increasing responsibility over time.
- Openness to project-based work with the potential for longer-term or permanent opportunities based on performance and expertise.
Work Environment
You work in a standard office environment attached to a manufacturing facility, giving you direct access to the shop floor and production equipment. The team offers a hybrid schedule with three days remote and two days onsite, providing flexibility while maintaining strong collaboration with a close-knit group of approximately six engineers. The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly, with a focus on teamwork, continuous growth, and mutual support. Some Fridays may be off when project work is completed, encouraging a results-oriented culture that values both productivity and work-life balance. You use modern CAD tools and work alongside fabrication and manufacturing teams in a clean, professional industrial setting.
