Job Title: Design Engineer Job Description
The Design Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end building design, development, review, and release for approval of new delivery stations, as well as capacity improvements and enhancements to existing stations. This role provides process expertise across engineering design elements, including material flow, labor placement, conveyors, equipment, operations modules, packaging profiles, and physical building and site layout. The Design Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to implement new design standards, drive expansion and retrofit projects, and deliver process improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and station capacity.
Responsibilities
- Lead building design, development, review, and release for approval for new delivery stations and enhancements to existing station capacity.
- Provide process expertise on engineering design, including material flow, labor placement, conveyors, equipment, operations modules, packaging profiles, and building and site layout components.
- Collaborate with Design Managers, CAD drafters, Real Estate Transaction teams, World Wide Engineering, Pre-Construction and architects, material handling equipment suppliers, Launch and Start Up teams, Finance, Volume Planning, and Capacity Planning teams to develop and refine design solutions.
- Implement new design standards in partnership with World Wide Design, Safety, Process Engineering, Material Handling Equipment, and Launch teams.
- Drive expansion, retrofit, and process improvement initiatives at the project level to support safety, quality, productivity, and capacity increases for delivery stations.
- Incorporate new template designs, process improvements, and safety processes into standard design packages.
- Facilitate cross-functional, project-specific reviews to collaborate on and validate design solutions.
- Support the creation and review of construction documents, design drawings, and drafting deliverables for building and process layouts.
- Apply process engineering principles to optimize workflow, material handling, and station operations.
- Manage projects effectively, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations are met in a fast-paced environment.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and key stakeholders across a cross-functional organization.
- Communicate clearly and professionally through written documentation, presentations, and verbal discussions to convey design intent and project status.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent industrial and operations background.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in process and building layout design and development, ideally within industrial, logistics, distribution, fulfillment, or production/manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency with standard design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Visio, and SolidWorks for CAD and building design.
- Experience with industrial engineering or building design, including construction documentation, design, and drafting.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvements or workflow improvements within operational environments.
- General knowledge of programming languages, databases, and computer science concepts to support data-driven design and process optimization.
- Strong process engineering skills, with the ability to analyze and optimize material flow, labor placement, and operational layouts.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives, timelines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced setting.
- Proven ability to build strong working relationships with business partners and key stakeholders in a cross-functional organization.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- High level of written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- background in industrial engineering, operations, or building design in logistics, distribution, fulfillment, or manufacturing environments.
- Experience working with material handling equipment and operations modules in delivery or production facilities.
- Exposure to data science or programming, such as mechanical engineering experience combined with programming or data science skills.
- Familiarity with databases and computer science principles to support analytical and optimization tasks.
- Experience collaborating with architects, real estate, and pre-construction teams on facility design and deployment.
- Ability to participate in and lead cross-functional design reviews and workshops.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, and capacity improvement.
- Comfort working in a dynamic, evolving environment with multiple stakeholders and changing priorities.
Work Environment
The Design Engineer works primarily onsite in Bellevue, WA, three days per week, within a project-based services team focused on designing grocery delivery stations. The environment is fast-paced and highly collaborative, involving regular interaction with engineering, real estate, pre-construction, material handling, safety, and launch teams. Work is largely office-based, using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MS Visio, and SolidWorks, along with standard productivity software and data tools. The role may involve occasional visits to delivery station sites to review layouts and implementation, and requires professional attire appropriate for an office and light industrial setting. The team culture emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, continuous improvement, and delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient designs that support growing delivery operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $52.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
