Take the Lead in Vehicle Handling Operations!

Road & Rail Services is looking for a motivated, safety-focused Operations Manager to lead our Vehicle Handling team at the BNSF facility in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced supervisor who enjoys leading employees, coordinating daily operations, and maintaining high standards for safety, productivity, and customer service.

As an Operations Manager, you will oversee the movement and handling of vehicles within a busy rail terminal environment. You will work closely with the Terminal Manager to ensure employees are properly trained, work assignments are completed efficiently, and operational goals are consistently achieved.

We are seeking a hands-on leader who can make decisions, solve problems, and keep the team moving in a fast-paced outdoor industrial environment.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Supervise daily vehicle handling activities, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Coordinate staffing, employee schedules, assignments, and daily production priorities.

Lead safety meetings and reinforce company and customer safety expectations.

Interview applicants, participate in hiring decisions, and oversee new-hire training.

Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, and address attendance or disciplinary concerns.

Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, FRA, DOT, and customer requirements.

Conduct operational inspections, safety observations, and compliance audits.

Verify employees follow established work instructions, quality standards, and site procedures.

Communicate operational updates, staffing concerns, and performance results to the Terminal Manager.

Identify opportunities to improve productivity, minimize vehicle damage, and reduce operational delays.

Assist with employee development, performance evaluations, and advancement opportunities.

Maintain accurate documentation and operational records.

Qualifications & Requirements

Previous supervisory or management experience required.

Experience in vehicle processing, automotive logistics, railroad operations, transportation, or industrial environments preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Valid state driver's license required.

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends or additional hours as operational demands require.

Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, accountability, and employee development.
