About this role
To carry out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery, equipment, and engineering utilities to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted API manufacturing operations. The Engineering Technician must comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), safety requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and site quality systems.
2. Detailed roles and responsibilities
A. Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
Perform routine inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing of API manufacturing equipment.
Attend equipment breakdowns and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or utility-related problems within the technician's authorized scope.
Maintain and repair equipment such as:
Reactors and glass-lined reactors (GLRs).
Agitators, mechanical seals, and gearboxes.
Centrifuges and nutsche filter dryers (NFDs).
Vacuum pumps and transfer pumps.
Heat exchangers, condensers, and evaporators.
Pressure vessels, storage tanks, and associated piping.
Motors, couplings, bearings, valves, and gear drives.
Check equipment alignment, vibration, lubrication, abnormal noise, leakage, and operating temperature.
Replace defective components and perform repairs according to approved procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
Ensure equipment guards, interlocks, earthing, and other safety devices are in place and functional.
Coordinate with production personnel before starting maintenance work on process equipment.
B. Preventive and predictive maintenance
Execute preventive maintenance (PM) schedules according to the approved maintenance plan.
Perform equipment inspections and identify signs of wear, corrosion, leakage, vibration, or deterioration.
Assist in condition monitoring, including vibration analysis, temperature checks, and other applicable equipment-health checks.
Follow lubrication schedules and use the correct lubricants for the equipment and service conditions.
Record maintenance activities, observations, spare parts consumed, and equipment condition.
Report recurring failures and recommend corrective actions to reduce equipment downtime.
Support reliability improvement initiatives and root cause analysis (RCA) for repeated breakdowns.
C. API process equipment support
Understand the operating principles and maintenance requirements of equipment used in chemical synthesis, reaction, separation, drying, and material handling.
Support maintenance of reactors, centrifuges, dryers, filters, and other process equipment in coordination with production and engineering teams.
Check the condition of gaskets, mechanical seals, valves, flanges, and piping connections for leakage.
Assist in inspecting equipment after maintenance and before returning it to production.
Ensure product-contact equipment is protected from contamination during maintenance.
