HEAVY DIESEL MECHANIC – AUCKLAND

We’re looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our Auckland team and help maintain a diverse fleet of trucks, plant and specialist equipment.

This is a role for someone who enjoys solving problems. Our equipment isn't always off-the-shelf, so you'll need to be able to diagnose issues, think laterally and find practical solutions when the obvious fix isn't always the right one.

You'll work across a varied fleet including vacuum trucks, hydro excavation units, sweepers, water blasters, tankers and other custom-built equipment.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

- Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs across our heavy vehicle and specialist fleet
- Diagnosing mechanical faults and finding practical solutions to keep equipment operating
- Working on hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems
- Carrying out preventative maintenance and inspections
- Responding to breakdowns and equipment issues as required
- Fabricating, modifying or adapting components where needed
- Working with the wider Fleet and Operations teams to minimise downtime
- Maintaining accurate service and repair records
- Keeping your work area, tools and equipment safe and organised

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a mechanic with broad practical skills who can apply their trade to equipment that isn't always straightforward.

You'll have:

- A relevant Heavy Diesel / Automotive trade qualification
- Experience working on heavy vehicles, plant or specialist equipment
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- A practical, "work it out" approach when faced with unusual faults or repairs
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- A strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship

Experience or skills in the following would be advantageous, but aren't essential:

- Basic electrical fault-finding and repairs
- Welding and fabrication
- Panel beating or body repairs
- Hydraulics and pneumatic systems
- Working on custom-built or modified equipment

WHAT MATTERS MOST

You don't need to be an expert in everything. We're looking for someone who knows their trade, isn't afraid to have a go and can work out how to solve a problem when the standard approach doesn't quite fit.
