About this role

Help Swansea recycle more and make a visible difference in our communities.

We are looking for a confident and customer-focused Waste Management Promotion Officer to join our Commercial and Domestic Waste Recycling Team. This is a varied frontline role where you will engage with residents, businesses and colleagues to promote the effective use of waste and recycling services and encourage positive, lasting changes in behaviour.

A key part of the role will be supporting the refreshed Keep Recycling Out (KRO) campaign, which encourages residents to keep recyclable materials out of black bags. You will inspect selected properties before collections, identify households that may need additional support, engage with residents after collection and revisit where necessary to help achieve lasting improvements in recycling behaviour. You will also assist the commercial and recycling officers, monitor service performance and promotional activity, collect and record information accurately, and provide feedback to help improve delivery.

The role is predominantly outdoors and involves working in all weather conditions, travelling between locations and, at times, working alone. You may encounter site hazards, undertake manual handling within health and safety limits and deal with potentially confrontational situations. Occasional weekend overtime may be required.

We are seeking someone who can communicate clearly with a wide range of people and provide excellent customer service in a busy and challenging environment. You will be organised, accurate and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

• Good numeracy and literacy skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Experience of communicating by telephone, in person and through written correspondence.

• Experience of providing advice, answering questions and resolving customer queries.

• Ability to collect and record data accurately, solve problems logically and respond positively to changing priorities.

• A full UK Category B driving licence.

You will be part of a supportive team working directly with communities and customers to improve recycling participation and service quality across Swansea. Through the KRO campaign, you will help residents understand how to separate their waste correctly, reduce recyclable material placed in black bags and support cleaner streets. The role offers the opportunity to build practical experience in waste management, public engagement and service improvement while contributing to a greener and more sustainable city.

The salary for the position is Grade 4 £26,427 - £26,847 per annum.
