Staff Surveyor / Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
Lead boundary, topographic, and specialty survey projects while overseeing mainly office operations. This role combines technical expertise, project leadership, boundary analysis, and staff mentorship, with support for professional development and multi-state licensure.
### Responsibilities
Manage boundary, topographic, and specialty survey projects from planning through delivery. Collect, review, and analyze survey data using GPS, GIS, CAD, and survey software. Interpret deeds, titles, easements, and legal documents for boundary determinations. Prepare and review maps, plats, legal descriptions, and survey reports. Coordinate field crews and office staff to ensure quality and efficiency. Establish and verify property boundaries, monuments, and control points. Ensure compliance with surveying regulations, standards, and client requirements. Partner with Project Managers on scope, schedule, and project execution. Perform quality control reviews and resolve survey discrepancies. Sign and seal survey documents as required. Mentor Surveyors-in-Training (SITs) and junior staff.
### Required Qualifications
Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license. 2+ years of land surveying and boundary determination experience. Knowledge of surveying laws, regulations, and standards. Proficiency with GPS, GIS, CAD (Civil 3D), and survey software. Experience interpreting deeds, titles, easements, and legal descriptions. Strong leadership, communication, and project coordination skills. Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
### Preferred Qualifications
Experience with boundary, topographic, and specialty surveys. Familiarity with aerial imagery and topographic data review. Quality control and survey data validation experience. Experience supporting boundary disputes or expert testimony. Interest in mentoring and professional development. Desire to pursue multi-state licensure.

Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $170000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
