Job Title: Fabrication Engineer Job Description
As a Fabrication Engineer, you will be responsible for transforming complex 3D models into production-ready designs, programming cutting-edge CNC equipment, and establishing precise manufacturing process routings to ensure seamless floor operations. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of precision sheet metal processing, advanced manufacturing software, and production workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design and manage models by unfolding complex 3D models, calculating precise bend allowances, and generating comprehensive flat layouts.
- Create detailed fabrication and engineering drawings that adhere strictly to dimensional specifications.
- Program CNC turret presses, precision lasers, and press brake machinery to optimize material yield and production efficiency.
- Develop and document exact manufacturing process routings and build structured, accurate Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Analyze blueprints, calculate material take-offs, determine labor hours for cutting, welding, and assembly, and generate competitive, profitable bids.
Essential Skills
- Advanced hands-on experience and expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks is mandatory.
- Extensive operational knowledge and experience with Amada programming software for lasers, turrets, and press brakes is required.
- Deep understanding of precision sheet metal characteristics, advanced fabrication processes, specialized tools, and raw material properties.
- Proven ability to map out and develop complete manufacturing process routings from engineering to final assembly.
- Fully proficient with standard office productivity tools, including MS Word and MS Excel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- A college degree or advanced technical certification in engineering or industrial design is a significant plus.
- Experience with Trumpf laser programming software is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with JobBOSS ERP software is preferred but not required.
- 510 years of dedicated engineering and design experience within a precision manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on or programming experience with CNC milling and CNC turning operations is a distinct professional asset.
Work Environment
The work is conducted onsite at a sheet metal manufacturing company. All metals manufacturing processes are performed in a dynamic environment requiring precision and attention to detail.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $40.86/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
